  • People Don't Need Religion Now!
     OP - December 15, 2009, 01:08 PM

I can understand that people long long time ago when there were no rules and laws to protect them and their properties needed religion with all those rules. But why do still people need religion when there Governments and constitutions?

I think that is why there are no new religions in our recent time.

Nowadays, people who kill are punished by law and jailed or in some countries executed, and those who steal are also locked up in jail. So Governments and their civil rules and laws are sufficient.

    Don't you think?  Huh?

Yeah, thats true. People cite things like a right to vote, to be educated and work and such things. especially in trying to prove how Islam supports women, but you get all these rights by the laws of the country you live in. People delude themselves in to thinking that their religion gives them these rights first and foremost.

I was thinking about this the other day. There are two main aspects to most religions, the metaphysical and the political. When I say political, I don't necessarilly mean political as in political systems like Shariah, but I mean laws, code of conduct, good and bad etc.

Anyway, what I was thinking was in the modern world, the metaphysical and the political have separated. We don't need the metaphysical anymore because we now have a much better understanding of the universe than we had when these religions came about. This leaves only the political, and for this we have modern political systems such as capitalism, socialism dictatorships etc.

In short, what I am saying is that we still have the two main aspects of religion without a need to believe in a personal God.

I hope that makes sense and I am not talking bullshit!
