  • Carlin v. Hicks

Of these two sacrilegious comedy legends, who do you prefer? I like both but I prefer Hicks. Hicks isn't as well-known as Carlin, so here's a sample if you haven't heard him:

Yeah, I've seen lots of Hicks stuff, and he's great and cuts deep into those issue.. but I don't really find him funny. Carlin not only talked about issues like religion but also made me actually laugh. I prefer Carlin by a long shot.

I dont normally like him, but thought this was funny, particularly the bit about the marriage to a niqabi that donned a pair of balls  grin12

I like both but if a gun were pointed to my head and I had to make a decision, I'd go w/Carlin.

Letterman was a dick to not play Hicks routine in '93 (I believe that was the year), he had Hick's Mom on a year ago and finally played his stand up from that night.  It was very good & I'm glad Letterman played it.

Hicks was deep and more serious about his comedic style. Which is fucking brilliant too!

The sad part is his early death, I tell you if he were still alive today he would have become even bigger and more anti-establishment than what he was.

I like Connolly, I once heard him in a show saying: ?Why is it that when we talk to God we're said to be praying, but when God talks to us we're schizophrenic?? but not sure if it was his original or he nicked it from somewhere?

I've always been a big fan of Hicks
He's struck me as the ideal comedian, the man who doesn't stand on stage to get a laugh but one who stands there because he can make you think while laughing

Carlin by a mile. Hicks was great, but he was so angry and preachy that he sometimes forgot to be funny. In terms of comic timing and delivery, Carlin was far superior. I get the feeling Hicks's early death caused him to become a little overrated, like so many other entertainers. Don't get wrong though, he still beats like 90% of comedians out there.

Gotta go with Carlin. I can always watch a whole Carlin vid easily but I could only listen to half of that Hicks vid.
