Perhaps he is not 100% sure, and thought it would be unfair to turn you into a pariah & impose Hell upon you in case he was wrong.

I bet he was so relieved & happy when you told him though  Afro

haha, So he's just pure awesome. No strings attached. Nice.

I mentioned that because I remember I had a couple of Palestinian friends back in Uni who were hardcore Fatah (their dads were some important officials in the party I think) and were quite secular/atheistic.

Virtual... what do you think of Dr. Moustafa Barghouti?

well if you are a Palestinian politician and getting your election money directly from the USAID, a budget that exceeds by far any other rival including fateh and hamas....you must have some connections with the Americans, which is always bad in my dictionary

you can get that...but we have a saying in palestine, if he is alive he properly don't deserves to, most of the good ones are taken down by isreal

on the other hand and on a personal level, i am kind of the person that will vote for hamas (kinda give them more string to hang themselves with), but i will definitely support abbas(not fateh and yes there is a deference)

So in other words you are saying that he is a lackey of the Americans?  Judging from what I have seen he seems to be a rather genuinely peaceful person and a true, educated moderate.  He doesn't talk like the others I have heard.  And he's also an independent.  But obviously I cannot see the whole picture from here.

I can understand your reasoning but the problem is that they will hang a lot of innocent people in the process as well...

trust me he is a wanna be at all costs, including the people

man you voting against them won't solve anything...if they lose in elections they will start to subside bomb Israel again leading the Israeli forces to kill a several of thousands people in the process, and the people will like them for that as they always did

best solution let them rule and show what they are made off, unless you have the balls and the power to erase the first line out of our constitution(state religion is Islam) and them in the same time

the first line out of our constitution(state religion is Islam)

Oh really? I didn't know that. Do you have a link you could direct us to, that has the constitution?

we have no constitution...we have a basic law that substitutes as a constitution for now
it is in Arabic but it is listed under 3.4
    Quote
Article (4): religion and the source of legislation and the language
Islam is the official religion in Palestine and other religions respect and sanctity of
Principles of Islamic Sharia the main source of legislation.
    Arabic is the official language.

    Quote

Interesting. Thanks for the info. Is this for both Gaza and the West Bank areas? I'd also be interested in when this was enshrined... at what point in history.

for the constitution it was 2003 that the first draft came out

for the basic law you have draft from the PLO in 1993-1994 i am not sure exactly
and the final amendment of basic law was in 2005

and it is for both WB and gaza

actually the constitution is pretty good towards christians and jews, and i can't seem to find any law that incriminates abandoning Islam since we have had historically a communist party and affiliated parties that is considered respected in our law and political history but not that quite in the eyes of the average person

on another note president Abbas and Arafat before him cerebrate Christmas in Bethlehem every year, and i think they give and still give special funds for Samaritans and all Christian churches
    ...............................

funny facts: we had 2 Jewish ministers in the first cabinet back in Tunisia, and we still hold Jewish members in the PLO central committee ranks

Well that's good. But isn't that going against the Quran? The Jizya part I mean? And being humiliated?
  • Re: getting out the closet

yes...never too late to include it in though

  • Re: getting out the closet

The fucking irony if they did that. I think this being cool with other Monotheistic religions (they don't mention non-monotheistic, non-religious though or Judaism by name lol) is out of political reasons. There are many Palestinian Christians, it would look bad if they were non included as equal under the law. Plus the government would have zero international support if they went along with the Pact of Umar.
