I've never encountered this concept of taking offence on someone's behalf. What do you call it - vicarious umbrage? Let the soul who feels aggrieved voice it if they imagine their feelings have been trampled underfoot. Who am I to refuse an apology? Going further, what makes you think Maya would hold back her cudgels? Has it occured to the grievance-mongers that I could only know about Maya's daughter from our private correspondence and that I made the joke set against that fraternal backdrop?
Offence? Fuggedaboutit. A complaint, or it's not true.
No I didn't make a complaint but that, in itself, doesn't mean your comment wasn't felt in some way MAB. Although my daughter's conversion to Islam etc. has been discussed publicly on here (it's not clear if you are aware of this or not) it's because this was also discussed privately with you that it leaves such an unpleasant taste in the mouth that you could throw that into a forum post, whether done in jest or not.
