Sure, but its more than machismo. There is a streak of useless machismo in Islam, but its a very superficial and cowardly form of manliness, based on patriarchal power, enforced by divine writ and social disadvantage to women. The strong men have all the odds stacked in their favour, so there isn't any real masculine toughness there at all.

What I mean is, its almost like Islam is seen as a repository for misanthropy, a hatred for humanity. And misanthropes can find a home in it, and flourish in it consistently. This should really worry Muslims, but they tend to view every convert as an affirmation of their self, so it doesn't get discussed amongst them much at all.

Welcome Morpheus! Glad to see you chose the blue pill! Wink

    it promoted hate and fear

I'm glad to see you've come to this conclusion. I've said this many times myself. You've been through a lot, but it seems your moral compass all that time was still point to a true north, which you've more than arrived at.

thank you for the question Q-man. well i can only speak for myself why i got into islam. like i mentioned in my story i felt something was missing from my life and religion took that place. and because of all the anger and hate that was building inside me, the religion of islam was well designed for me to fuel that anger. i could very well have become the next shoe bomber. islam also made everything "easier", you didnt have to think all the time and wonder about why are we here, and why this and why that. islam explained everything. but truth is life is not that easy, but it was a nice release to believe that it was for a while you know what i mean? that is until you wake up from it all and realise it was all b.s. .  hope that helps your understanding of this phenomenah.

Thanks Morpheus! You have set my mind at ease.I had experienced a queer kind of depression watching all those videos on the you tube showing  new conversions to Islam from all over Europe, like Q-Man I was baffled,I couldn't believe my eyes!I mean if religion is what these people wanted, why Islam for heaven's sake! How could these people be fooled into thinking that this was a 'TRUE RELIGION',AND THAT KORAN IS 'THE WORD OF GOD'? HOW COULD THEY BE BLIND TO THE REALITY OF HOW IT'S PRACTICED IN PLACES WHERE IT HAS BEEN FOLLOWED FOR CENTURIES?
How could they ignore its criminal history?
Mercifully ,I am an outsider in all this inasmuch as I don't consider religion as a basic human need for people to find meaning in their lives,as Abrahamic religions tend to do.In fact they tend to,while paying lip servicing to doing and being good, invoke the worst feelings in men that divide humanity into warring groups ,by their 'HOLIER THAN THOU ATTITUDE'
Yes! Morpheus you are right, life is complex to the extent that there are no easy fixes for our problems. No organized religion,no matter what they claim, can help.If anything they worsen your condition by making you feel guilty.
IMHO,the solution to all our problems lies within us.Nature has endowed us with a built in regulator that works perfectly under normal conditions, that also has an overload protection for stressful conditions, which tempers and moderates your reactions to the external world and preserves your sanity, giving you peace of mind.It is when this overload fails ,you have all sorts of problems thrust on you.

The World is my country, all mankind are my brethren, and to do good is my religion.

The macho men attract women.  It's the selfish gene theory.

    what do you mean?

Oh, you picked me up on that, a whole month later. Tongue
Basically, I'm trying to say that we subconsciously do what we need to do to pass on our genes, like all other creatures.  Evolution has built that tendency in us.
Hence, men are drawn to being machismo because it is in our nature.

I am not sure if women do necessarily like macho men.  Of course some do, but I have certainly seen women put off by that carry on.

Some like quite & shy men, some like intelligent men, some like good-lucking men, some like funny men - I think machismo is just one of the types from those that I just listed that they can like ..

this might be a lot of reading but i feel like its necessary to tell the entire story.
    ... *snip*

I enjoyed your story. no one tells you about the punishment of apostasy when you're a Muslim! They just tell you the peaceful, "scientific", and cutesy part of Islam only.

You know what we should do... all of us should write out our stories in depth and make a big book. "Memoirs of an Ex Muslim" (lol... or you can come up with something more creative) and put are stories on paper. You can remain anonymous if you'd like.

i started searching the internet how one leaves islam. i got a lot of help fromyoutubers who themselves had left islam, and they told me all you really have to do was to stop beliving and stop praying and so on.

LOL, hey, I remember getting a message on youtube from someone who asked how to leave islam, and I told him that all you had to do was to stop believing etc, and to have a lot of sex, beer, and pork, was that you who asked me that??
