    Hi Sherif and welcome!

     signwelcome

Could you please tell us more about yourself?  We generally encourage people to post an introduction in the intro thread.

So, why do you want to convert?  What are your current beliefs?

I know that in Egypt religious identity is very important and I'm sure that you're aware that if you make it public that you have left Islam it will put you at a social disadvantage amongst others.

Have you considered lying low and keeping your beliefs to yourself for awhile?  Perhaps this is the best plan of action while you think about what you want to do in order to escape the mental jail cell of Islam.

    Take care and peace.

Also, here's your free parrot!  parrot

    eziak ya me3alem (hello mayor)

First of all whats your current religion? What do you want to convert to? How old are you?

I am an Egyptian, atheist living in Cairo... yes its irritating, frustrating and boring living here as an atheist or anything other than Muslim, even Christians here are beginning to find it harder.

But why not just apply for immigration to any place, try Canada, New Zealand or Australia.

I don't think it's wise for you to post your e-mail address with your full name on this forum. Provided that's your full name, of course.

Hmmm, honestly this doesn't sound legit at all.

Why not talk here, why does it have to progress to email so quickly?

Why do you need immigration help BEFORE you leave islam?  you aren't the only muslim turned non muslim living in a muslim country.  They lie low and keep their lack of belief to themselves.  They certainly don't canvass here for immigration help with no background info, no steps already taken, just a quick "help, get me out of here, and THEN I will leave Islam.  Grin  come on, can you not hear how suspicious that sounds?

So are you just a wannabe immigrant who wants to use the ex muslim tag to his advantage?  at which stage hell no.

Or a troll trying to be be clever?

If you are legit, I will eat my own hat though.

Inhale the good shit, exhale the bullshit.

    Berbs,
This is exactly what I thought when I saw this thread.
kimo is living in Egypt and has been a closet Atheist for many years, and he seems fairly happy.  And he hasn't even met a single ex-Muslim in real life yet.
To leave Islam, you don't need to migrate to another country.  You just need to stop believing all the absurd dogma.  You can still pretend you are a Muslim in real life.

I lived in Egypt for a year and I didn't pray or go to the mosque once. In fact I used to buy alcohol and go to nightclubs every week or so.

I am not saying Sherif should not try to move to another country. I wish him all the best. But it's not as bad as some might have you believe.

BTW Sherif, inta sakin fil 8ahira?

This is what I was getting at.  You don't need to tell everyone you are an ex-Muslim.  I know it sucks living as an ex-Muslim in a Muslim country, where you cannot be your true self.  But until Sherif can emigrate, he doesn't need to tell everyone he is an apostate.  I lived as a closet Atheist for many months, going to pray at the mosque everyday and even going to Islamic talks; and I live in Britain.  Even now, I don't tell Muslims I meet that I am an apostate.
The problem is, Sherif clearly said in his original post that he wanted to emigrate BEFORE leaving Islam.  Maybe, it was just badly worded.

Anyway, Sherif, good luck sorting out your emigration if you really want to.  I think there is a thread on this forum with guidelines that you will find useful.

I think he's considering converting to another religion which is punishable by death or prison in Egypt.

Yo Sherif, have you considered atheism (il7ad) ? do you believe in a creator or personal God?

Why dont you start an ex muslims for Egyptians website?  I know there are ex muslims for Arabs and Pakistanis website, maybe you wont feel too lonely.

You are right, i actually get alcohol delivery from drinkies here.. And i never pray.. no body really asks or cares.. (hmmm.... they do at work sometimes piss me offf but its okay i can live with that)

It does get frustrating though if you are having a conversation with people and can't speak your mind. (sure you got what i mean), or in ramadan if you feel like having coffee during the day but hey the late night hangouts in ramadan in egypt are wonderful.. so i can't complain...

Talking about alcohol, finally in Egypt we got table wine "Shahrazad".

Yeah, life for an atheist during Ramadan in Egypt is pretty shitty. Although in my uni the cafeteria was open and many (and I really many) didn't fast. Needless to say, you can't roam around campus with a bottle of water or a bag of crisps. It's better to eat it in the cafeteria.

BTW, why is it in the Egyptian market you can only find Egyptian-made Stella or Heineken? We used to drive to a Maadi or Madinat Nasr to get Budweiser or Peroni. Did the government ban them to enforce a monopoly for Egyptian beer?

I think i wasn't clear i actually like ramadan in egypt the night hangouts are wonderful i just get pissed from not being able to drink in restaurants and all..

No there is no monopoly its just that the imported alc. is too expensive 250% taxes or more..

Welcome Sherif - CEMB doesn't have the resources to take every ex-Muslim out of their country to another country I'm afraid.

You have to get a visit visit first and once you're in the country you can apply for asylum on grounds of religious persecution. Chances are slim though so don't get your hopes up.

As Iraqi Atheist told you its not easy.. plus those documents do not exist online for download the ones i can send you are for normal immigration..

For religious reasons you have to pay a visit personally to the embassy..

Although of course apostates are suffering persecution, I doubt any country will accept that as the basis for immigration from Egypt unless the circumstances are extraordinary.
