Mods, please pin this thread  Smiley

It seems you see all of this for the first time? I got loads and loads of Biblical treasure...are you interested? I might add some FFI links where I had to confront a few Christian missionaries comparing the Quran to the Bible... after a few rounds, they started to play smart, stopped mentioning the Bible and their beloved Yahweh, and concentrated on criticizing the Quran without comparng it to the Bible...if you want these links, be prepared for a very high level of profanity Smiley

That is what all believers do.

What really pisses me off is when those same Christians who fall over themselves to explain this or that verse on the basis of "context' or "metaphor" - then refuse to allow Muslims to do the same.

I fucking HATE hypocrisy! (I mean really fucking HATE it!)

Well, FFI, lately, swarms with missionaries.. it's becoming a frigging 700 Club... and to make thing worse, FFI now has two additional *Christian* moderators (besides ixolite and Ariel who are atheists)... Can you believe that? A supposedly ex-Muslim site should have only atheists as moderators, not Christian moderators!

I'm only seeing some of these verses for the first time and I'm an ex-Christian.  I bet most don't know, especially the OT verses.

Wouldn't most say the OT is old? And there is no need to read it?

Is that a correct way of looking at the OT according to Christian doctrine?

As far as I know.  We only ever read the NT in RE lessons at school, mostly the Gospels.  That's Catholics though, if you get into fundie Protestant territory the OT would be held in higher regard.

You'd be surprised how many Muslims only ever read the nasty verses from the Qur'an on sites like this or other sites critical of Islam. It is quite a shock to many.

I have absolutely nothing against the vast majority of ordinary Muslims (and Christians or any believers) who wear their rose-coloured spectacles when looking at their faith and only ever know one side of it - the nice side they are taught by dad and mum etc...

They want to believe their religion is nice - they are human and their humanity defines their faith.

This is why it really annoys me when some insist that moderate - selective - Muslims are ignorant or not 'real' Muslims. Who cares if they are selective! That's what most believers of all faiths do. So long as they are peaceful and harming noone - why do they insist on lumping them with extremists and terrorists.

    It really annoys me  finmad

This "conversation" started when a stupid missionary said that Muslims don't read the Torah, because it does NOT diss the Jews like the Quran... so I set out to prove to him that the Bible is far far more anti-semitic than the Quran (I know it's hard to believe, but read!)
    http://forum09.faithfreedom.org/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=1493&start=100#p32801

And here another stupid missionary claimed that Yahweh never supported the sins of His prophets, so I had to prove the idiot wrong:
    http://forum09.faithfreedom.org/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=75&p=33136#p33136

Yet another missionary made the mistake of comparing Yahweh to the Quranic God, start reading here:

I guess that's too much reading already and I doubt you'd read half of it... but if you want more, I'll oblige Smiley

PS. Recently FFI has implemented a system replacing *fucking* with *most excellent*... so when you see me saying *most excellent*, I really said "fucking" but the system replaced it with "most excellent"... I *guess* this was the suggestion of the new Christian staff (even though Yahweh loved to swear A LOT!)

Yeah but Catholic or Protestant, OT is still canon and considered the word of God. Anything in the OT not directly contradicted or changed by Jesus would still have to be considered valid by the Roman Catholic Church I would think.

If you were a Muslim, some would call you an ignorant Muslim and not a real Muslim. You need to be taught all this nasty shit - doesn't matter how you think your faith should be interpreted or that you don't regard this or that text as an important part of your faith. People like them will define your faith for you and you must accept it or you are not a Muslim!

I'm sure that when you were a Christian you would have, rightly, told anyone who tried to impose such a view on you, exactly where to go!

Did you ever come across these verses Cheetah? Jesus doesn't seem very loving after all!

    Matthew 11:20-25
    http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew%2011:20-25;&version=NIV;
20Then Jesus began to denounce the cities in which most of his miracles had been performed, because they did not repent. 21"Woe to you, Korazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! If the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. 22But I tell you, it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you. 23And you, Capernaum, will you be lifted up to the skies? No, you will go down to the depths.[d] If the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Sodom, it would have remained to this day. 24But I tell you that it will be more bearable for Sodom on the day of judgment than for you." 25At that time Jesus said, "I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. 26Yes, Father, for this was your good pleasure.

To me, if Jesus is indeed full of love then he should have prayed for them rather than praised his Father for their blindness. But another way to view this is that Jesus has already passed his judgement regarding them... maybe he saw in them so much arrogance and disbelief he knew that his Father has already judged them and blinded them from seeing the truth? It seems that the test was over for them already even before their death (for their sins were great enough for a judgement to pass before the end of the test period--marked by their death).

    Anyway, keep reading:

    Mark 4:10-12
    http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Mark%204:10-12;&version=NIV;
10When he was alone, the Twelve and the others around him asked him about the parables. 11He told them, "The secret of the kingdom of God has been given to you. But to those on the outside everything is said in parables 12so that, " 'they may be ever seeing but never perceiving, and ever hearing but never understanding; otherwise they might turn and be forgiven!'[a]"

Why does he speak in parables? So that the codified message reaches the intended audience?... it really doesn't seem that Jesus is all about love and compassion after all.

Actually many Muslims from my circle of friends never heard or probably forgot about these weird verse your tlking bout Hassan. When ever I ask them about what is meant by this or that verse, they say: is that in the Quran? Some would remind me to be careful of the verse inserted by the Jews.... However, when ever they say that I reminded them that the Quran is saved by the one and only! So they need not worry... Afro

This should be epecially offensive to women:

read how REALLY obsessed Yahweh is about women having their periods.

In the Bible, a woman is treated like a highly contagious leper as long as she's menstruating, and NOT only that, her menstruating is considered a SIN she has to atone for by burning a bird!
    http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Leviticus%2015:19-30&version=NIV

I don't know, reading the above link, I think if I were a believing Jew I would have had a "menstruation" room where I lock female members of my family when they're menstruating!

I quoted a nasty verse to my sister the other day - she is older than me and been religious all her life - it was like she'd never heard that verse in her life.

Most Muslims have a blind spot to the nasty stuff.

    No, let me rephrase that:

Most believers of ALL religions have a blind spot to the nasty stuff.

was it about slavery? That's when I usually read the verse very quickly as if it's not there.

It was from Sura al Bayyinah

"Indeed those from the people of the book and Mushrikeen will be in the fire of hell forever they are the worst of creatures"

She was saying the People of the Book won't go to hell.

She was speechless for a moment. Even though it is a short sura often recited in prayers - it was like she never heard it before in her life.

Blind spot! Trust me - all believers have it.

It's obvious its a book for that time, its extremely local. The Quran should not just limit itself to the region or those three religion, in fact it should not even limit itself to the entire world. It would have to encompass a book for all times and all of universe. And there simply isn't a book like that. You have to make-belief that this is the guiding book for all mankind for all of time. It's ridiculous. I just can't believe a God would send this book, impossible. It's even really petty, can you imagine holding a grudge your whole life? Now imagine Allah, holding this grudge against people since the beginning of time and to the end of it. It's ridiculous.
