     OP - May 21, 2010, 09:29 AM

    need some advice here.
Not sure if any of you know the story of the muslim couple who threw themselves from a tower block in Glasgow to avoid deportation. It transpires that no family or friends have come forward to claim the remains and so they will be buried into a 'Paupers' grave,i.e mass anonomous burial plot.
Some friends feel that there should be at least a bit of dignity in death for them and are currently planning to fund an alternative burial for them. I lost the argument saying that whilst it was noble of them their money may be better spent on the living at the refugee centre and I came out of it sounding like a heartless turd , but I still think the same.
Anyway they are seeking advice as to what a Muslim burial would involve , the do's and don'ts. They dont want to involve local mosques as they feel they have already shown their disinterest by allowing the bodies to go unclaimed  whilst they were not slow to gnash the teeth at 'Heartless UK' in the press about it,  and they feel this is probably due to them taking their own lives.
Anyway if anyone has any advice I can pass on Id appreciate it

According to the polls only 1.6 % of Americans are athiests. So what gives you the right to call the other 80% morons?'

hey hiya,, this is quite serious!! it is fard kafaya for the janaza(funeral) to be done!! the mosque it bloody stupid if they're not doing it, can you get in touch with any other islamic group up there, for them to take responsibility?

for a muslim funeral these are are steps that need to be taken.

    1) Ghusal- the body needs to be washed.
    2) the need to be shrouded in a white cloth- covering their bodies, including their face.
    3) face their faces to the right.
    4) there needs to be a janaza prayer done, this needs to be done in congegation.
    5) when burying the bodies, they need to be facing the kaba!
    6) Duas for the forgivness.

but like i said, it would be good for a local islamic group to take responsibilty!

couldnt agree more, and whilst I believe their hearts to be in the right place ( athiests all of them by the way )  I cant help but feel they are walking into a cultural minefield. Im wondering why the local muslims have not taken any initiatives on this and it may be that the deceased had taken a stance on Islam that lead them to take asylum in the first place which would explain the situation.
Im still of the opinion that if they want to help they should help the living instead ,  but Im outvoted. Weird situation to be in .

JK could you explain those wordds to me Kaba , Duas , etc

yes kaba means when you lay the body in the ground, he/she should be faceing in the direction of mecca(kaba, Kibla). Dua means to supplicate for their forgivness.

Kaffir Latte, i think the local muslims will not take responsibility coz as far as i know, those who kill themselves are not considered muslims.

The rituals explained by JonnyKhan are correct just add to it that the body must be on the side facing the kaaba (like one shoulder towards the ground and the other pointing upwards.)

I think I remember a couple from Russia or eastern Europe commiting suicide by jumping from a tower block in Glasgow a while back. Is this this same tragic couple?

Lots of depressing news comes out of Glasgow.  I remember the case of the random lad who was randomly picked up &  murdered by muslims, as part of a race hate crime.

Yeah I remember that. One of the local MPs, a Scottish Pakistani guy, went to Pakistan and got them extradited after they escaped there. The MP got threatened himself but he stood up to them.

from my understanding, this does not make u a non muslim! they must still have janaza!

Dont think they want to say prayers for them as it would be hypocritical and nonsensical to do that if you dont believe what you are saying,, just think they want them to have some dignity in death and to give them some kind of ritualistic farewell according to whatever beleifs they held themselves. Seems the whip round has been successful and they are putting it in the hands of a local support group
