Apparently according to boyfriend, in Islam, when sleeping, you are not supposed to sleep with your feet directing Mecca. Is this true?

This is so superstitious if is so.

Wouldnt surpise me - after all when you die they go to the effort of forcing your cold hard rigour-mortised head in the direction of Kaaba, whats the deal about shifting your pinky toes

It's because pointing your feet at someone is disrespectful, and the Kaaba in Mecca is to be revered highly.

i've been told that many times.. also.. it's better to sleep on your right side.. feet away from Mecca and face facing Mecca .. just in case one happened to die in their sleep..

Errrrrr, which ever direction you face your feet will point to Mecca. Isn't the earth round?  whistling2

I told one of my Muslim friends who asked me once about the direction of the Kabba, that he can face any direction as the earth is round. I asked him, what direction a Muslim astronout will face if he wants to pray on his space ship, he did not have a clue!  Cheesy

Haha, it is true. I said to bf so whilst prostrating you are mooning the kaaba? And he said, yes I guess Muslims are. Anddd, the Kaaba is just a bunch of stones. Also, surely if inflexible you may be mooning god, sort of downward dog style.

What if you ejaculate in the direction of Mecca by accident (or on purpose) Huh?

That is of course true lol

Obviously Muhammad was just thinking of where to face in relation to Arabia (and clearly appears to have thought the earth was flat despite modern claims about the Qur'an)

Which way should people on the West Coast of the US face? Or the East Coast of China and Russia? Facing in the opposite direction would be just as much 'facing mecca' as would the traditional way -in fact it may make more sense?

In our family, all our beds and sleeping positions were carefully positioned to avoid 'kicking' Kaaba.  My mum would tell us off if we slept in the wrong position.  In fact, such is the level of respect for Kaaba, that even sitting with one's feet facing Kaaba is frowned upon.  (Although, among arabs it didn't seem to be as much.)

Aha!  so this is where the tradition came from!!

I think Mohamed could have been more clever if he ignored the direction bit, and asked people to pray in any direction. Yes, the direction part of the prayers shows that they actually thought the earth was flat. It is important to remember that in all the verses that described the earth in Quran it says that it is flat.

It's not about superstition, it's respecting the Ka'ba and stuff.
Is there a hadith that says the direction of the Ka'ba (when praying) is always northwest?

    Its almost like idol worshipping.

Is Allah sitting inside his house in Mecca, drinking a cup of tea? Better not have your feet in that direction, in case he gets upset.

Oh no wait, its just a big black stone that Muslims are praying in the direction of, five times a day.

It is a worrying issue though  Huh?

You'd be astonished at the absurdities discussed in the books of many Islamic Scholars in the past when defining endless minutiae and possible implications on Islamic Law.

I bet if one searched long enough, one might actually find a reference to: "The Ruling on the legality of ejaculating towards the Ka'ba"

With subsections dealing with: "The one who does this intentionally" and "The one who does this unintentionally"

With sub-sub-sections regarding "The position of he who's intention was to ejaculate, but was distracted by someone coming up the stairs"

    And so on...

Well then you should worry about ejaculating while lying on your back... 'cause that would be towards heavens, and you know who dwells in heaven... haha

Yes it is true.  Muslims take this into account when they arrange their bed and bedroom furniture.  Many of my relatives don't put their bed in the place that they would've preferred to, because their feet would've faced Mecca.

Little things like this made me realise how stupid Islam is.  If you tell this to a non-Muslim they just wouldn't take it seriously, but it's true!

I guess this will no longer be an issue once the Kaaba is hit by a meteor or destroyed in an earthquake. This will finally give Muslims a hint that the Kaaba is just a meaningless structure of stones, built before Islam to host idols of Arabian tribes and to bring them together to trade, enrich and empower the people of Mecca… not much of a spiritual significance, but definitely that of commerce.

    Good thinking  Afro

However, when it makes a downward trajectory, that might be in a Mecca-ish direction, oh no  Huh?

Also, what about sexual positions. If your or your partner has your face towards Mecca doing the deed, is that like arrogant, staring at the Holy of Holies as you do it Wholly in her Holey  Huh?

But then if you do it the other way, and your bottom is facing Mecca during this lovemaking  Huh?

Its just so fraught with anxiety.

In Saudi, the direction of the Ka'aba must also be taken into consideration when installing toilets.

On a related note, when I was at university, I went out with a girl from Malta for a while, and she would turn the picture of the Holy Mother Mary away from us to face the wall whenever we made love, she'd also take her small crucifix off her necklace too. She couldn't do any jiggy without taking these measures.
