I just fasted for 15 minutes. Grin

Broke my fast with some dates, and got some stashed for tomorrow.

     Cheesy

It's funny when mum is looking at the time and waiting for the exact minute to stop eating or to start eating for Iftar  Cheesy It's silly because that time is probably inaccurate by at least 30 seconds :O How dare they disobey by 1 second even!

Step 1.tell your parents you have become ultra religious and want to wear the burka for Ramadan.

Step 2.  Sow lots of pockets on the inside and stuff with food.

    Huh?Huh???

    Profit.

So once again I'm left with the classic Irish man's dilemma, do I eat the potato or do I let it ferment so I can drink it later?

    deusvult is a burka gnome.

I hate this day already. I wanted to wake up at 3:30, drink water and go immediately back to sleep, but I had to go to the bathroom and after that, no sleeping. I feel like a zombie right now. Feeling a bit hungry, which is normal in the morning, but very manageable. Ten hours left to go! yay.

It may last you till you can see the northen star,
otherwise you'll have to hit the bazaar, in your sports car, and munch away like a czar!
Oh what a rebellion, you are!

I got woken up 3.30am being asked to go down stairs ... nooo ... feel fine though, but I should really just say I don't need to eat at Sehri and will be full up from the evening. Breaking a 6 hour sleep is not productive for the mind. Did you know you learn the most when sleeping? Oh yes ... your mind is joining dots together.

Anyhow, I bought a nice Oatie breakfast this morning at London Bridge station. A delightful young lady introduced me the options (much like a game show hostess! “We haaave: Strawberry & Banana or if you have a sweet tooth Honey and nuts … !!!” ) and mmm ... it was good. Off to get lunch now, then having Nandos with a friend at 5pm ... I better take it light so there is some space left at 8pm!!

    Noticed this in the news:

    Ramadan goes high-tech on mobiles

She uses an iPhone app called iPray Lite, keeping track of daily prayers with a programme that simulates the clicking sound of prayer beads or the turning wheel of a handheld metal counter Muslims use to keep count of prayer repetitions. Using headphones, the 24-year-old says she can now fulfil her daily spiritual obligations by counting prayers on her iPhone on the commuter bus to work.

    Interesting ...

Hi virav5! (Welcome back from your trip!) My advice to to join in the with family, respect their tradition. If you really cannot stand fasting (like some of us!) then there are plenty of ideas on this thread on how to deal with the sitation, and this is a good place to vent.

Hmm, this might be the case,
if not well rhymed it will be difficult to keep a straight face.
I feel it does give a post some elegance & grace in our little gathering place,
however all these extra words must surely take up some server disk space!

(Hmm, I think I'm losing it. Difficult to admit. But it's good to be honest and explicit!)

She know I haven't prayed in well over a year. She also keeps telling me that if I don't pray Jumma three weeks in a row, I stop being a muslim. The worst thing about it is that  she know that I haven't prayed jumma in over 52 weeks!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hhi0pfikOrk

Yeah she keeps on saying that "everyone has a religion - what religion do you believe in."

I don't think she even knows that there are people who don't believe in god.  Cry

    deer GodIsNotGreat,

you don't want to be like ethist who follows no book or nubbi

you are wrong. i'm guiding you. islam is the truth. repent and pray now. Before it's too late.

Well then, tell her you're a Jew.

Alternatively, just show up one day wearing a yarmulke. Afro

    That'll get her started. Cheesy

Tell her newer versions aren't always better. Look at Windows Vista, for example.

She'd probably say that they corrupted Windows XP, and then claim that Windows Vista got the original Windows NT kernel, which would amount to whole lot of random BS. grin12

I went to sleep at 10am and woke up about an hour ago ._. I have an orange and banana to last me about an hour and a half maybe (not sure when iftar is exactly) oh, plus some sweets I had from before.

I was going to carry a cup of water into my room with me, but i was late and mum said sheri is over and I should stop eating lol so I could only sneak in the orange and banana. Good thing I took the orange, would quench my thirst and the banana for energy Smiley

Edit: Wow, what's wrong with me today, I made so many mistakes o.o

That video was very interesting to me because it really takes the mickey at many silly formalities followed by traditionalist/orthodox Muslims.  Ridicule is one of my favourite weapons against Islam.  (c.f. conversational intolerance)
We need more of these videos.  It was made by Muslims and tries to redeem itself at the end, but it's still useful. Wink

I love how anything that doesn't give Islam the utmost respect is considered an insult, even when it's done by muslims. If you play music near a masjid, they see it as an attack on their precious religion for example. And they say that the ummah is united Tongue It's hilarious.

By the way, fasting becomes a lot easier if you sleep until iftar Wink

    LOL!!!  Cheesy

I loved this video, thanks olweasel!  Afro

    Some thoughts:
    - A lot of this is very true even in the UK, even the little things like turning down the radio when getting nearer to the mosque, Mohammed the crazy wadu guy, the speaker who loves his voice, the rudeboy wrappers
    - What I found interesting was how for a second generation Asian, he has a very American style humour. It really rubs off on them (like a few relatives over there in California). Good stuff!
    - I think he is right that Jumma is a social construct that allows people in the community to meet, much like going to church. Honestly, sometimes just to chat to dad while in the car going to the mosque is technically quite useful to talk about things we otherwise wouldn't have the time for.

    Yeah, I noticed that too.

In fact, the Mosque in general is a place to meet people and make new friends -- particularly when a Muslim moves into a new town.
