    I have to say that I have become bored of debating Islam. In fact I have been for a while. Islam is history for me - but wish no ill will at all to Muslims - in fact I see all human beings in the same boat - just groping in the dark as best they can and I have equal empathy for all - regardless.

    I am still pretty much addicted to the forum - but just for the banter really - with ppl I can identify with Smiley

    What about you?

    Here for the debate about Islam - or social chit-chat - or bit of both?

    I would say this forum is far more of a social club compared to "the other one".. (I won't mention its name, anymore).

    I realise that this forum serves an essential and rare service to ex-Muslims so I feel a great obligation to support it - but personally am bored by the topics that I personally have moved way beyond. (Though I of course recognise others have not yet.)

    I'm bored of Islam too, in fact I can't be bothered to debate or convince muslims of my position, simply because Islam is all gloom and doom.  To me Islam is just annoyance and I sometimes get angry about the fact that I have to deal with it.  

    As for me, I'm here to learn about how other people are coping in similar situations and yes, the social aspect is very comforting too. Smiley

    And a social club for ex-Muslims and heretics or whatever is a very valuable thing - as there is nowhere else for us to get support/share our emotions/jokes/feelings etc... so it should not be belittled.

    Perhaps that is in fact that is what is most needed - since I suspect most ppl have already made up their minds and just want to chat with others who have gone through - or are going through - the same things.

    I came here mainly so that I might have a chance to talk to you, Hassan, and then inevitably I got into debates with other members, reaching the same conclusion I already had before: basically, people believe what they already want to believe..

    then it became like a social venue for me, with occasional discussions, here and there...

    Yes ... banter, learning from others, chit-chat, read up on interesting articles. Specifically like discussion on current affairs, human psychology and generally how Islam is developing in the world. It is a nice place to hang out, very decent people here.

    Yep, there are some great people here - and without all that hate and bigotry and extremes that usually plagues any discussion about Islam on the net.

    I'm not gonna lie, I'm pretty much bored of debating Islam - but I think this forum serves an important purpose, as there aren't many people like us in the real world and gives you an opportunity to vent you frustrations and say things we cannot say in the real world!

    I reckon this forum has evolved and the way you and I feel about discussing Islam, I think most of the regular posters here think the same way. There are very few Islamic discussions, such as discussions about Qur'an, hadith, and general theology,  compared to when I joined the forum and the months after.

    Anyway, do you think that this is bad for the forum or not?

    I can understand why someone who had been debating and studying  Islam for years would finally get bored of it.

    I, on the other hand, am not bored by talking about it at all.

    And yes. This forum is good just for the people on it. And you can't talk about religion all the time...

    I think it is perfectly fine, it isn't like that information is lost to the cosmos.  If anyone pops in with those kinds of questions then it gets brought up again, but the posters in the forum are human beings.  We talk about and take an interest in various things.

    I KNOW you don't care to turn people against their religion, but the poor guy is like halfway slaughtered sheep... somebody must finish him off... I believe I can do it, but ...

    If you believe in God, Debunker then surely you believe that the people we meet and the challenges we face are the ones meant for us? The challenges we have been given. I am not here to finish anyone off! That's not my intention nor purpose.

    I would hate to be responsible for leading anyone this way or that - I myself am in the dark - like we all are.

    How they react to the things I say or do is not my responsibility nor my mission nor my concern.

    I only do what comes to me naturally - and pose questions that come from within me. I leave others to decide for themselves - and am content with whatever they want. Like I say we are all children stumbling in the dark.

    If Abu faced things that made him think - then that was what God wanted for him. Hopefully he will benefit from it.

    OP,
    I too agree Hassan.  Going through the same old debates over and over seems pointless.
    For me the pupose of this forum is:
    • to keep my morale up, by meeting like-minded people who have gone through similar experiences
    • to educate myself about political stances on various issues
    • to understand the forces that make religion tick, from a scientific and social scientific point of view
    • to uncover flaws/absurdities in Islamic dogma which people haven't yet spotted or haven't yet highlighted.
    • to expose Muslim injustices that need to be highlighted

I know I sound like a monster, and I probably need therapy, but seeing him like this, I feel so tempted to give him that final push towards apostasy, and all of this despite my liking him!     Stop beating yourself up, Debunker. We all do what we do and say what we do because of who we are and the journey we are on. Why do you feel bad about being true to yourself? How others react to that is not your fault nor business.
