Indeed - this is how I feel. I can sit in bed at night and look out my window and up to the stars and speak to God I certainly get a tingly feeling of awe and a sense his presence and that he is listening and watching over me. But how do I know this is not just all my projection? I don't.

The only thing I can know is the tangible stuff. What I see and observe in life and real experiences.

And they don't reflect well on God - if he does exist.

I just got a dab of tears in my eyes now. Yeah I know exactly what you mean  Cry

Nono I understand. We are thinking the exact same thing I'd say.

I can see why you tried hard to believe now Smiley

And sometimes I wish I had never ventured out here  Cry

But I always worshiped truth, I used to pray "Give me truth Lord"

He sure answered that one prayer for me. Thanks  Afro

lol... Well I'm more confused and ignorant than when I was a teenager - so I guess God miss read my prayers!

Same with me.  The good Lord in his infinite (non-)existancy answered the truth for me too, and in the only way he knows how.  By not saying anything.

Hey breaking up is hard, they were in a relationship for decades ffs. It's just that Hassan you have to realize long distance relationships never work in the end. I'm sorry but that's the truth. He is worried (and he should be with such a fine devotee as yourself) that you will find somebody else, somebody younger, hotter, with less demands. Somebody that might actually answer your prayers. You know somebody like this:

Poor Allah. All alone with his billions of angels.

Atheist, Agnostic... they're just names - I don't believe in God - but I don't disbelieve in him either. I cannot make an affirmative statement either way. i.e. I cannot say "I believe in God" and I cannot say "I disbelieve in God". I am not able to back up either statement with conviction.

As far as I know that is actually on the Atheist scale - and I would say Agnostic is the same thing - just a softer way of saying it in the popular perception.

I agree Hassan.  They are just names that have different connotations to them.
There are so many different names:
    atheist/agnostic/rationalist/freethinker/skeptic/PEARList/pantheist etc etc.
Some people like Pantheist because it shows an appreciation of the beauty of the universe.  Well, Richard Dawkins seems to appreciate that a lot.

It is a myth that Atheism means an absolute assertion that God doesn't exist.  That kind is certainty is just as dogmatic as the theist position.

I asked you about what you believe is deemed criminal enough to be punished eternally for it. I've kinda lost track of where the thread was so I'll respond here.

From the page you linked me to, I got the impression that you argue it is 'disbelief', right?

    No. Wrong.

Anyway, for you, the answer again is: I have no answer.

I tend to find the PEARList term to be quite funny and rather silly. Its just a youtube atheist fad. That's all.

Let me know your thoughts on these questions mate.

I suppose you are still collecting your own thoughts on these matters, and admittedly the way you look at the Quran is a far more refreshing & robust way of looking at things from a humanitarian perspective.

But unless you can answer such basic questions competently then I dont think there is much chance for your stance to take off  Cry

    1) What does your God-given soul and intelligence tell you about eating a ham sandwich?
    2) What is the use for the Quran now?

1.) I think humans in general see 'clean' things as being good. I personally wouldn't like to eat an animal that eats it's own poo (so I probably wouldn't eat rodents, rabbits etc. either). But this is a personal preference. If you for example want to eat pork - I don't think it is a major issue, it's not something that would be considered a 'sin' for example. There would be many grey areas - much more grey than this example - but I don't think these grey areas would be a big deal.

2.) I of course still believe the Qur'an to be the true word of God and Muhammad to be a true Prophet (as well as all the other Prophets mentioned in Qur'an). So even though I believe that the Qur'an was only meant to be limited to its time and place, the Qur'an is still much more than just a 'history book'. The Qur'an tells us that there is a God. It tells us that there is an afterlife. It tells us that there is going to be ultimate justice for things that have happened in this world. It tells us that God does care about us and that He is a Just and Merciful God.

Now, I'm not saying that you need to beleive in this book to lead a good life - not at all. But for those who do choose to believe in it (i.e. believe that it was divinely inspired), the Qur'an gives them hope and comfort - just having this knowledge can be very important for some people and in fact can help some people and spur them on to lead good lives.
