Just wanted to second this hassan. I'm extremely bored of this islam and muslim bullshit in general. Both sides - the whole thunderf00t episode reminded me that atheists and enlightened westerners are really the other side of same coin. Fuck humanity and all this tribal bullshit, I used to be positive but now I just hope an asteroid hits earth soon (after I die of course) and just ends this sordid tale. Besides, atheists and secular liberal types are mostly just talk. The world belongs to the ignorant and aggressive cunts.

I just x through all the new vids on how evil islam is from all my anti-islam youtube subscriptions. Its so 2009. *yawn*

I know exactly how you feel, mate. Reminds me of the sufi story of a group of blind men feeling different parts of an elephant and fighting over what an elephant looks like based on their tiny perspective.

Astroid Mastroid! WTF are you two talking about? I am still young (I think) and still wanna have fun. Go to the beach and splash splash in the cool Mediteranean sea, have sex, lots of sex with my beautiful wife, look at my kids and enjoy their mischeifs, eat lots of nice food and just live the moment. Astroid? Huh!  finmad

    @billy

Oddly enough, no. I'm not depressed at all. If anything I'm sort of relieved to not care about anything but myself anymore. It's been a long process, but I think I've finally transformed into the archetypal apathetic, carnal, self-indulgent and thoroughly individualistic privelged westerner. I'm still motivated and moving along quite nicely with all other aspects of my life. I still like all of you here, but I'm simply not passionate about this cause or any cause anymore. And I like it this way.

Then again, I wasn't particularly serious about my religious/political beliefs in the past either. So I guess the philosophical flux I used to be in has finally stabilized and settled at my natural and healthy mental state.. that state being a self-serving and entertainment-seeking prick.

Its just the destruction of the world thing. I know its just an expression of annoyance, but people who sometimes feel blue express thoughts like that sometimes. A guy who I used to work with would say things like that all the time and he was going through a melancholy phase.

As bad as things are, I would never want the world to stop turning.

I'm probably reading too much into it, but it was so unlike you.

I applaud the likes of Hassan, RIBs, Islame, Maryam, High Octane, and all who passionately pursue
human rights, defenders and protectors of people who cant defend and protect themselves.

Iblis.. I know what its like to just want to throw in the towel and forget about it.  The mechanics
of islam, and politics for that matter, are exhausting physically, emotionally, even spiritually.

And everyone has their own convictions, or "burdens" if you will, and thank goodness for those who
can tirelesly persevere in the arenas that I cant!  Regardless whether its due to lack of means,
knowledge, or my spirit just cant handle it.

When i was a christian (hell, a muslim, too, for that matter), i pondered often about "burdens"
and what callings people had, ordained by god.  And one day i realized, it doesnt matter how big
or little one's "calling" is.  Random acts of kindness every day are just as important as standing
on a pulpit, or being the CEO of a non profit organization!  You can touch lives and make a difference
every single day!  Like encountering a really nasty checkout person. Pause for a minute, genuinely smile
at them, and ask them if they are having a bad day.  I tested this, and guess what? EVERY single time
they responded with gratitude.  Their kids were sick, they had to work a double shift and their feet were
killing them, they had a fight with their spouse, etc etc.  That one small act of genuine kindest CAN make
a difference in one's life!  Doesnt have to be anything more than an understanding smile.

    Well, there's always this verse:

    [60:8]
Allah forbiddeth you not those who warred not against you on account of religion and drove you not out from your homes, that ye should show them kindness and deal justly with them. Lo! Allah loveth the just dealers.

So, since you're not trying to convert your family to atheism, they're not obliged to shun you.

And there's an interesting hadith given in Tafsir Ibn Kathir on this subject:

Imam Ahmad recorded that Asma' bint Abu Bakr said, "My mother, who was an idolatress at the time, came to me during the Treaty of Peace, the Prophet conducted with the Quraysh. I came to the Prophet and said, `O Allah's Messenger! My mother came visiting, desiring something from me, should I treat her with good relations' The Prophet said: "Yes. Keep good relations with your mother.'' The Two Sahihs recorded this Hadith.

So, even though this person was a Pagan and an unbeliever, her family was still ordered by Muhammad to keep good relations with her.

Interesting verse and Hadith.  I'm sure my dad knows all these (and many more) very well, but I suspect he knows that there is a context for every verse and Hadith, and they have to be interpreted in a certain way. no

I don't know if 'shun' is the right word.  We do communicate to a certain level, but they are still trying to get me to revert, and are trying to make me feel isolated in an attempt to break me psychologically.  It is working a bit no , but it took 12 months for that. Cheesy  What am I like? wacko

Regarding the Hadiths, I dunno.  Perhaps they feel there is sufficient evidence in Quran and Hadith to not shun (or harm me), but are doing what they think will work to get me to revert.  Mind virus again! no
It's ridiculous when you think about it; if I do fake a reversion, I will obviously be an extremely questioning, freethinking, secular, liberal (fake) Muslim.  Do they really want one of them in their midst? instilling doubts in the minds of other Muslims? whistling2

I don't know how much of this is due to social embarrassment they will face for having an apostate son, and how much is due to trying to 'save' me from 'hellfire'. Huh?

Anyway, I'm trying to be positive and self-reliant.  Hopefully things will get better. Smiley

I read somewhere that consistency is important, even if other people think you are wrong, so long as you are consistent, it is better than swaying. It's something I'm trying out in my family: consistently be the nice black sheep (i.e. disagreeing with as much respect as possible), that way, at least unwritten expectations are less likely to hurt them in the future I think. Might not be the best strategy, but well ... there you go.

I gave the benefit of the doubt with a workmate the other day (kept turning up late, not putting in as much effort, or showing as much enthausiasm) and found out he broke up with his gf, couldn't see his new born nephew back home (Cyprus) and had a jaw problem he had to go home to resolve (he's living in London). I felt pretty bad for commenting I think he should have been more of a team player, before I gave him the benefit of the doubt. Ooops. Oh well. Good to given benefit of the doubt. Easy yo forget.
