  • iPhone or Droid?
     OP - May 26, 2010, 09:22 PM

Poll questions says it all.  I am getting a new phone and want to get a smart phone.  From what I know, the competition for smart phones is pretty much between the iphone and the Motorola Droid.  Which one do you think I should get and why?  Or if you have a another suggestion let me know.

So once again I'm left with the classic Irish man's dilemma, do I eat the potato or do I let it ferment so I can drink it later?

Haven't played around with a Droid but I've been happy with an Android. Far cheeper than the iSheep but the GUI/UX is better on the iPhone no doubt about that. Up to you: decent functionality & save money or splash out and have a nice fashionable accessory?

Blackberry-- then again, I hate not having a full QWERTY keyboard. Fuck touchscreen.

Between those two, I'd probably go for the iPhone-- I know a lot of people who have it and they're all very satisfied with it. That and, in my experience, Motorola doesn't make very good phones-- which is as shame as I prefer to buy American-made products and Motorola was one of the companies that really put cell phones on the map.

Droid looks cool but I'm going to have to go with the iPhone

Dunno about the Droid, but I have a Moment which is an Android phone and Android kicks the iPhone's ass in so many ways. I love my phone, go with Android. I agree with Q about the touchscreen... although the touchscreen keyboard on the Moment is usually pretty accurate, I almost always pull out my full qwerty slider. Actually, I also agree about Motorola not being great quality, but maybe they have improved. I've liked all the Samsung phones I've had (I had 3 before I got my current phone), which is why I chose the Moment and it's fantastic. So if you have a choice of some other Android phone, then take those into consideration as well. Whatever you choose though, I'm sure you love having a smart phone with apps Afro

P.S. The main reason why Android kicks iPhone's ass: although it's technically illegal to restrict how you use your connection, Apple can decide what is and isn't available for download from its app store. One of my coworkers who has an iPhone can't use his 3G with our VoIP server because Apple won't approve any apps that have that functionality (making VoIP calls over 3G). Which means if he wants to call over VoIP, he has to first find wireless. The Android, on the other hand, has a fair selection of SIP clients that use 3G. The other drawback of using such a client on the iPhone is that the iPhone won't run any apps in the background, so as soon as you switch away from your VoIP app, it closes, which means you won't get incoming calls. The Android is the complete opposite, actually, most apps DO run in the background and you have to proactively close them in order to save battery power. There are apps that do that for you, though Wink. Oh, and who could forget, most of the apps for Android are FREE since it's open source. And if you are into programming, you can download the SDK and write your own app if you really wanted to. Also, because it's open source, the sheer number and variety of apps available is so much better than the iPhone.

Not that I have anything against Apple or the iPhone, but I love my Android Smiley

Apple suck. Luthiel said it all. The Android far outranks the iPhone, especially the HTC Desire. My bf has one of those and it's ace Afro I think multitasking is more than enough of a reason to not get an Apple. My own shitty phone can multitask!

We're talking about phones, I don't think Microsoft makes any phones just the OS for windows mobile.

Read what she said, she said Apple suck. I told her, Apple is now bigger than the computer guys that make the system she is using possible, ergo they can't suck

And iphone's are very good, despite their price, they are fantastic pieces of work which haven't properly been replicated by all the fake touchscreen Asian phone companies (LG et al). I have a Nokia btw because it suits me more, but objectively, the iphone was designed with genius.

    Ahh ok

I would get the iPhone because it has a lot of users so there are a lot of apps that you wouldn't find on a droid (as far as I know).

That means nothing. The iPhone is a popular fashionable item. The Android is much better however. iPhone is still a good phone, but Apple's resistance to things they don't like make them suck. Plus Android is open source, that makes them automatically better and gives them a greater potential Afro Even if they never outdo the iPhone.

Lesson number one to council of ex muslim members.

    Projection

    Quote

    Description
When a person has uncomfortable thoughts or feelings, they may project these onto other people, assigning the thoughts or feelings that they need to repress to a convenient alternative target.

Projection may also happen to obliterate attributes of other people with which we are uncomfortable. We assume that they are like us, and in doing so we allow ourselves to ignore those attributes they have with which we are uncomfortable.

Neurotic projection is perceiving others as operating in ways one unconsciously finds objectionable in yourself.
Complementary projection is assuming that others do, think and feel in the same way as you.
Complimentary projection is assuming that others can do things as well as you.
Projection also appears where we see our own traits in other people, as in the false consensus effect. Thus we see our friends as being more like us than they really are.

    Example
I do not like another person. But I have a value that says I should like everyone. So I project onto them that they do not like me. This allows me to avoid them and also to handle my own feelings of dislike.

An unfaithful husband suspects his wife of infidelity.

A woman who is attracted to a fellow worker accuses the person of sexual advances.

Billy's post(s) are an example of projection.

Depends what you want.  If you want a phone that does neat tricks, get an iPhone.

If you want a small but versatile computer that also happens to be a phone, get a Droid.

However if you want the best phone there is get HTC Desire.
