No, I didn't construct a survey hence why I never stated I did. I know a few atheists in Saudi and when I mean it's hard for them living there, I meant they have to represent Islam. They people I'm talking about don't live in Jeddah which is a tad more liberal than the other parts of Saudi. They have to wear the niqab, be separated from the opposite sex, etc. which is hard and annoying for them because
(a) They're not Muslim to begin with,
(b) They want to do simple things that are "haram" such a hanging out and such.
(c) They can't speak openly about their beliefs with professors/family/others/etc.
It is of course hard for anyone with beliefs that are 100% antagonist to the local culture... but hey, guess what? Those "suffering" people could leave the country, right?
Agreed. I'm not an eagle though I prefer a tiger as my title.
Islam is NOT the reason why Saudi men are boarish... it's social customs. The same applies to women.
Against women.
Atrocities against women? like what?
My parents are mentally ill, seriously speaking. I go to therapy to deal with this.
why go to therapy? those mentally-ill people were nice enough to let you live on your own thousands of miles away... you don't have to deal with them.
I met these Saudi atheists, both male and female online.
And you could judge the *gentleness* of the male Saudi atheists and the *bravery* of the female Saudi atheists, by interacting with them ONLINE?
I only met one female in real life back in Saudi. The other is my cousin. Again, my family have the mindset of back home yet they're a bit liberal too.
I'd say they're way too liberal, by any Saudi standards, allowing you to live on your own, in a Western country, thousand of miles away.
I didn't just run up to them and ask them if I can go and they said "yes." It took a lot of work and I had to "prove myself" to them. I've only dormed for one semester and they want me to come back home but I won't.
And you have a say in this? They changed their mind and want you back, yet you can say no to them? even though they have the power to cut off the scholarship on you?
By the way, your English is excellent.. I have been living in the US for years and my English is not as good as yours... and you're only 18 years old... That's very impressive! I mean, it is well known that Saudis who finish High School in Saudi Arabia (regardless of whether the school is private or not), speak very poor English, yet you could get to this level in less than a year of studying abroad! I feel very humbled.
