Baseball is the same. Tradition over technology.

Yeah, it's the worst officiated sport I can think of.

I think they should add two more linesmen, and make discussion/collaborative-decision making between the ref and his assistants more common practice like it is in baseball and American football. The official time-keeper needs to be someone who is NOT a referee, and YES, as you said they need to figure out a way to incorporate video instant replay for controversial/dispute calls-- but do it in such a way that it doesn't add too much time to the game (that's always been the challenge with introducing it in American sports).

Baseball is the same. Tradition over technology.

    It's NOT the same

    1. The head umpire does not have nearly as much power as a soccer ref
    2. Umpires regularly review calls with each other collectively if an ump second guesses himself or another ump saw something different.
    3. Baseball did experiment with instant replay technology at one point, but concluded it just ended up adding way too much time to the games, which are already the longest in American sports by far.

Should have been 3-2. The disallowed goal had at least 2 Slovenian players fouling US players, not the other way around.

Nah I'm quite happy with the result.. just what England needed.  Still good comeback from the USA.  Hats off to them..

Whether you're happy or not is irrelevant. That goal was legit. The ref had no reason to do what he did. It should have been 3-2 if the ref hadn't made a really bad call.

True.. I admit.  The Slovenians were actually pulling the Americans back..  But hey I'm not complaining...  Wink

Hmmm, failed to recognize the historical significance of the Germany-Serbia game until now-- once again underdog Serbs kick German ass. It's like 1945 all over again.

England's entire world cup hangs on this 45 minutes.
They need a spark, a fleet foot and some quick thinking.

if usa and england both draw in the final game, usa will probably go through at the expense of england - providing the england draw isn't a very high scoring one (at least 3-3)

If both USA and England win their final group games against Algeria and Slovenia respectively, they go to the KO stages.

Right now, US deserves to make it to the second round.

Slovenia should put England out of it's misery.
