They deserve to be slaughtered in the press!

The problem with England is that they are an average side - fact! But have delusions of grandeur.

Worse than that they didn't even play to their potential - they played like schoolboys in a park.

And so are the millions of other England fans ... to be fair even Ladbrooks calculated the Germans as the underdogs. It really just wasn't England's day at all.

I was too young for 66 but remember 1970 well.

We had a world class team in 1970 and in 1990 - apart from that England have always been an average team.

Ah, well. My team's still in. Can't wait to see them play Argentina.  Afro

Maybe Beckenbauer is right - we have too many foreign players in the Premiership and it doesn't allow enough good English players to break through.

Surely if an English player is good enough to play for the national team he'd get into his clubs first team. if there were less foreigners in the prem the only effect it would have is that there would be more crap English players who are not good enough to be in the national side anyway. i really do think that the better foreign players help the English players in the prem play at a better level. otherwise it would be the best English players playing crap English players and no-one would learn a thing as far as imrpoving their game.

i get a bit mad when people start blaming the number of foreign players in the prem just because England are not very good.

Agree, fair enough, no problemo!  Afro So therefore, there should be no gloomy faces in the office tomorrow!

Oh I will have a gloomy face. I'm miserable now that England has been knocked out of the World Cup. I wanted England to thrash the Germans big time. But a big kudos to the Germans. They played well and deserved to win.

No hard feelings against the Germans. But I'm still miserable. Why is that so hard for you to understand?

The argument is that it doesn't allow good players to get the first team experience and develop into great players.

I have never been one for advocating a quota on foreign players, but it is frankly something that perhaps should be taken seriously.

The guy in your avatar for example became  great player as he was given the opportunity - as a relatively unknown youngster - to play regularly in the Premiership and Arsene Wenger made him into a world class player. Now he says - thanks very much - and fucked off. That chance could have been given to an English player to develop and who might now be playing for England.

That's not really a scandal. It's close but from those videos alone I would say the ref made the right decision...

Wenger has an eye for spotting talent. Fabregas was exceptional even when he was a kid. The reason he was given a chance in the first team before he even turned 18 was because of that very exceptional talent which, lets face it, NO English player has ever shown for many generations. He was given a chance because he that damn good.

Theo Walcott? All speed, but no real improvement in his passing, shooting, or consistency. Young English players are, lets face it, over-paid and spoiled. Their coaching as teens is not the best in the world, and even the older ones only look exceptional for teams like United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal etc because of some very exceptional foreigners in their side.

That was the reason Wenger managed to lure Cesc to Arsenal just the way Gerard Pique went to United. Pique is a brilliant defender but because of Vidic-Rio partnership he had very limited chances, but when he played he showed he was one for the future. As soon as he went back to Barcelona, Rafael Maquez was out of the first team and Puyol-Pique partner in the middle for both Barcelona and Spain.

The problem is purely and simply that English FA and most clubs often have very shit academy systems. From coaching, to grooming, to training...
