actually I just checked EI and one of its many definitions matches your accusation; basically you're saying I'm manipulating Moe. Smiley

See, Ration, that's the main thing I don't like about you, your "intelligence". But the fact is I'm getting something from this, not from Moe, though, but rather from his father.. I hope he comes back to this thread, but my guess is that he won't.

The visit of Dr Shark here is enormously brave of him and shows one thing and one thing only..... He loves his son more than any father I have known from the Muslim world. My father is dead now, and I miss him very very much and I know he loved my very very much, but I doubt he would have done what Dr Shark is doing now.

By the way, although my Mom suspects that I don't believe in religion any longer but she never confronted me and will never will. And I am a grown up man, married and have kids!

Moe, you should be very proud of your father! But being proud does not make you a blind belivier in Spagetti Monster or Santa!

Dr Shark, if you are reading this, I said this before and I will say it again. You should love your son even more and be proud of your self as you have raised a very bright man. He is not a sheep. He learned (probably from you) to question things and think for himself.

Moe maybe had reached a conclusion that Allah (the all powerful, all mighty, super duper invisible being) is not doing a great job of letting us know it exists. You might gain me back to Islam and get all the bounses you can ask for if you prove to me it exists yes

Statistically with the number of people in the world who think I am great you are abound to dislike me Wink

Seriously though, I don't see any claim to intellectual superiority in any of my posts, let alone the one I just made - I think you infer a lot from me that simply isn't there.  But anyway, I'd rather this thread didn't turn into one about me.  I'd be happy to discuss it in private or in another thread, or just let it lie, I'm easy Smiley

I'm a father too.  TBH I dont think what your doing is special or unique in anyway.  Being in tune with science and culture today (& your son) is something far greater than anything being stuck with a prehistoric mindset can ever provide.

In fact its exactly what I would do in your situation. Just because we are dads its doesnt mean we dont learn things from our sons too, in fact mine keep me young and without them I wouldnt have had a water fight for years!

By "share with my son different opinions" do you mean that you wish to offer him counter arguments in favour of religion to opinions you see here?
By the way, I hope you're not telling me to leave the forum, are you?

    Yes!

No, just kidding Smiley  Even if I had the ability to kick someone off this forum I would only do it if they were making the forums difficult for other users to use, and certainly not for having a differing opinion.  I wouldn't even kick off someone I dislike, even if there were someone I disliked (I like most people.)

I'm curious....Would you be willing to accept a truth you dislike and to reject an untruth you love, or would you rather hang on to an untruth?

I will have to disagree with you IsLame on this one. If that was the norm, we would have seen your father joining in, or Peru's or Hanan's father. What Dr Shark have done is very unique indeed and I salute him for his courage and beeing friendly with his son.

If my son joined a cult I would join too in order to get inside and expose it.  If my family were all members of a cult and my son left I would ostracise him, not because I wanted to but because that is what cults teach you to do.

Not that I am calling Islam a cult, even though it is Smiley

Yes, but those are fathers with an Eastern mindset.  I am talking about fathers who are the norm in the types of society within which he & I live, and its normal behaviour.

But I do applaud him for being different for not falling into the trap, like you rightly point out he did not fall into.

Sorry DB - but you remind me of an old man stuck in a young mans body.

This is one of my bugbears about Islam.  I dont think you would be like that if you didnt believe in Islam. I think you would change at a fundamantal level, it know it probably sounds like a cliche to you, but when people mention their minds being set free, it really did happen to me too.

He doesn't believe in Islam, he believes in some of it. That's why he refuses to discuss slavery, because he knows that anyone who'd give permission to have sex with slaves is a disgusting person, and yet that's what he sees when he reads "God's words" in his holy book.

He believes what suits him and shelves the rest so that he doesn't have to think about it, just in case God really is a complete bastard and burns him for eternity for not liking what he said about being allowed to fuck captives.

That's good to see!  The idea of him burning in fire for all eternity must be quite upsetting for you.  Do you think it would be possible for you to live in heaven knowing what is happening to Moe and for you to still be happy and still absolutely love the person who is doing it to him?

    The Rationalizer;
Unfortunately the human mind is limited, yes it has and endless power of learning and imagination, yet it's still limited because of the human nature of the mind. There are questions one will never find the answere to:

-Where were you before came to be?

-What's the limit to the universe? -If there is a limit, what's beyond that limit?

-If the atom is made of electrons, protons and neutrons; then what are these tiny particles made of? If they're made of something, what's that "something" made of?

-What's the difference between two healthy bodies, one is alive, the other is dead? isn't it the soul? then what's this sould made of? How come we never see this soul comes out when someone dies?

-How did this world come to be? What was here before this universe came to be? If there was something, then what was there before this "something" came to be?

These are some of the many questions that demonstrates the limitation of the human mind. That's why I believe science can't explain every thing, because it, in itself, is made by human beings using their limited brains.

This clearly shows that there is a creator of this universe who's knoledge and power are beyond imagination by the limited human brain.

Guys, no one on earth can convince me that different materials (including steel, silica, etc...) can gather in a perfect way, yet by chance, to form a nice hand watch that you may find on the street to explain to you how it came to be there? If you find a knife with blood on it in a crime see, can you say it was by chance that some iron and plastics gathered (by chance) to form a knife, and some iron and proteins from elsewhere, gathered (again by chance) to form blood cells and blood and (again by chance) came on the knife, and both (again by chance) happened to be a crime seen? The logic if the first example would say a big NO, the hand watch must have been "manufactured" by an excellent company or designer who knows the ins and outs of this watch. The answer to the second example is bull shit, there is no possibility of a stupid chance like that, and it's not difficult at all to conclude that there is a crime and the knife is the weapon and blood on it is probably the victim's blood!

Now how can some one convince me that this entire incridible world and universe that we live in, with all it's complexities, came to be by chance, or it has no creator? On the same token, not only there is a creator to this universe, He must have super power and knowledge to be able to do this with infinit excellence and perfection, and it must be one creator only for this perfection and excellence to happen.

This creator is the one who created me as part of this entire universe, and if it wasn't because of Him, I wouldn't be existing!! So I owe my self to Him. He did the same thing to my sone, my family, the entire human race. He has the right to do whatever He wants with us, yet, he's much more merceful than what we think of him with our limited "human" brains. (to follow......)
