Allah calls himself 'The Arrogant' in 59:23

    ٱلْمُتَكَبِّرُ

al-Mutakabbar: the Most Proud, The Arrogant, The Exalted, etc.

    Nice try though.

    lol

"Arrogant" has a negative connotation in the English language and is inappropriate as a correct translation in that case.

I don't know it's true.  I believe it's true.  I have faith it is true.

Mrasheed I know I acted like a dick in this thread but let me ask you one thing just cause I like to knowwhat Muslims think (im not gonna start a debate)

What do you think aisha's age was when Muhammad had intercourse with her?

    I'm an asshat.

To be fair the word "kibr" means pride/arrogance (thats what muttakabbar is derived from)

We as humans aren't supposed to be proud/arrogant because allah has reserved that for himself. (according to islam)

    I'm an asshat.

That bubble is the self delusion. Its main ingredient is fear - fear of being insignificant in an enormous, indifferent universe with nobody *outside of it* to turn to, and living with this knowledge. Clutching at straws called "faith" which is belief in the opposite of reality, is the only hope for such a scared mind.

    Really?

Then why is it that in Q. 39:72, Hell is referred to as

    مَثْوَى ٱلْمُتَكَـبِّرِينَ

The Abode of al-Mutakabbareena, the Abode of the Arrogant?

In this case it IS an appropriate translated because it is meant to confer a negative view.

You all make stuff more difficult than it need be, hence your transgression from the faith.  tsk.

cool thanks man. I've read stuff that says the same thing I was just interested in where you stood on the issue.

The translation is correct. In humans it is a bad quality but Muslims don't believe that applies to Allah.

For instance the word kibr is used to refer to Satan when he refused to prostrate to man

I understand that the word is the same in the Arabic, I just take issue with using traditionally negative English words to refer to Allah in the translation.  Use Exalted' or something when referring to Allah and 'arrogant' when refering the word to anyone else.

This should be normal ettiqette for believers and common sense.

No it literally means arrogant even when referring to Allah. It just shows that Muslims believe only Allah has the right to be arrogant and this is not a negative quality when reffering to Allah.

I understand the concept and meaning of the word is not negative when referring to Allah, but traditionally the English word 'arrogant' is a negative word.  I get your point, I just feel it would be best served for the translator to use a synonym for 'arrogant' instead.

I discussed this with debunker and he said that the exclusive right of Allah to be proud is because Allah is all-powerful, and humans only have what they have because Allah gave them it, and therefore they have no right to be proud or arrogant about what they have.

and the guy who hinges his entire argument upon who wrote the page numbers or whatever.

That was me  grin12  It was in fact the names of the chapters that are inside your quran, that you previously thought was all directly quoted from Allah.

Well at least now you must accept that somethings inside your quran were written & invented by men, its up to you which other parts were & which parts werent.

Now that you also know the Quran was compiled 20 years after the prophets death in its current format, your wishful thinking just got that little bit harder.
