But let's face it no-one would go out, or meet people or do anything with blood on them, would they?

I mean one would clean up first. Just common hygiene.

Yeah but I'm happy to go out with or meet menstruating women.

    @ Rasheed

In Islam, blood is unclean weather it's menses blood or blood coming from a wound or something... so yeah, men with bleeding wounds are also unclean and can't pray/fast till they stop the bleeding (same with women having menses).

I thought that you knew that blood was made equally unclean as pigs in the Quran?

In Islam, a womam menstruating can't do 3 things:

1- Pray the daily 5 prayers.
    2- Fast.
3- Have sex with her husband.

Otherwise, she's free to do anything else.

    No, not at all.

Just that it's common decency to clean-up.

I don't think they're sexy or repulsive. I've always just thought they were perfectly normal (for women, obviously) and nothing to worry about.

    @ Rasheed

    Quote
In other words, like those foolish European dudes mentioned in an earlier post, because he couldn't understand the concept of Allah being unaffected by His creation because He friggin' created it and knows ALL the rules, etc. and doesn't HAVE to be subject to anything, Al Ghazali decided that God was actually LYING when he said we have Free Will.  So instead of accepting His guardian Lord as Truth and wrapping his puny thoughts and theories around that truth, he instead, because he couldn't figure it out, decided to alter the Word of God to make himself feel better.

    That's awesome.

In a dumb@ss kind of way.

Actually he didn't alter the word of God. He just misunderstood it. According to Quran, man does NOT have free-will in the ABSOLUTE sense... only in the relative sense...  (having free-will in the absolute sense limits God ABSOLUTE reign over absolutely everything, that's why our free-will is NOT absolute and can only be within God's will).

    @ Zebeedee

exactly, otherwise that would violate the Quranic definition of the word God.

By the way, how did you know I had Mutazilite tendencies in the other thread? Did you read one of my older posts? Or was that just your analysis?

Haha, I just asked you about it in the other thread

But I dunno, maybe I was tipped off to it by the fact that you advised me to read up on the Mutazilites and that you actually seem to value human reason, unlike certain other Muslims.

Actually I didn't really know I had Mutazilite tendencies until my Sunni friends, whom I discussed religion with, accused me of being a Mutazilite like it was a dirty word!! When I read about them I felt relieved that their principles existed since the 8th century and that this way of thinking is nothing new at all.

I thought that I might be indeed "unconsciencely" affected by Western values, as I have been repeatedly accused of such. But when we see Muslims as far back as the 8th century had similar principles, I can feel reassured that my views aren't biased or affected by the West.

Ah. I see. So it's sort of like being as halal as the guys who wrote the nastiest bits of shariah. As long as they have a long history it's all good. Wink

Wouldn't the correctness or otherwise of a position be wholly independent of its age?

No Oz, I already believe in following my own beliefs regardless o fwhat the ancient scholars (both Mutazilites and orthodox) believed... it's just that being told all the time that my attitude towards religion is "influenced" by modern times made me doubt my beliefs sometimes.

Quote from Q-Man:  "What about buttsex Rasheed?"

    It's haraaaaaaam

    From Tafsir Ibn Kathir:

    Anal Sex is prohibited

    Allah said:

    [مِنْ حَيْثُ أَمَرَكُمُ اللَّهُ]

(...as Allah has ordained for you.) this refers to Al-Farj (the vagina), as Ibn `Abbas, Mujahid and other scholars have stated. Therefore, anal sex is prohibited, as we will further emphasize afterwards, Allah willing. Abu Razin, `Ikrimah and Ad-Dahhak and others said that:

Imam Ahmad reported that Khuzaymah bin Thabit Al-Khatami narrated that Allah's Messenger said:

    «لَا يَسْتَحْيِي اللهُ مِنَ الْحَقِّ ثَلَاثًا لَا تَأْتُوا النِّسَاءَ فِي أَعْجَازِهِن»

(Allah does not shy from the truth - he said it thrice-, do not have anal sex with women.)

This Hadith was collected by An-Nasa'i and Ibn Majah.

Abu `Isa At-Tirmidhi and An-Nasa'i reported that Ibn `Abbas narrated that Allah's Messenger said:

    «لَا يَنْظُرُ اللهُ إِلى رَجُلٍ أَتَى رَجُلًا أَوِ امْرَأَةً فِي الدُّبُر»

(Allah does not look at a man who had anal sex with another man or a woman.)

    uhhh...

    Zebedee?

Why do you have all the buttsex references on speed dial?

And do you think that your understanding of the Quran is infallible?

By no means!  I can only do the best that I can do, based on my own understanding.

Or is it possible that you might interpret it wrongly?

    It's VERY possible.

No. Your Wright brothers analogy is still an appallingly poor one.

What you are suggesting is more like this: the Wright brothers read the Quran and are impressed with the bit about Buraq. As a result of this they decide they have faith that donkeys can be made to fly, and on that basis they proceed to try and breed flying donkeys.

If the Wright brothers had proceeded in that fashion they would not have been remembered as pioneers. They would have been remembered as idiots.

I cannot possibly disagree with you more.  It's like you have a super-strong, anti-Islam force field that is SO negative, you can't grasp my analogy.  If no one has ever done something before, but you believe you can, that is FAITH in it's most practical application.  Period.

You are implying that it is impossible for Muslims to be scientists because they believe in Allah and His Book.  Experience has shown me that it is impossible to have a decent coversation with that kind of over-weird bigotry that flies in the face of the facts of recorded history.

MRasheed are you sure not having doubts about your faith, i say so cause it is strange to see you here all day debating with us, it looks like that in reality you are debating with yourself and trying to get us finding the answers for you, am i right??
anyway you are spending a lot of time debating with us, i think that is not an easy thing, as we posting lot of question, you are a very patient man! and still your talking with us with respect even though we are apostats that is something not a lot of muslims would do, even if you're stuck in some parts cause of your beliefs i think that you are an open minded person. thank you!

Ok, cool. So what you're saying if is I, as a white dude, enslaved you, as a black dude, you wouldn't regard my actions as evil.

Your actions would be both illegal and evil.  Evil not because slavery is evil as an institution, but because you personally would be doing it for @sshole reasons.  lol

Now if a woman is getting bad cramping anyway then sure, sex may make it worse. Doesn't apply to all women though.

Not all people get all the symptoms from all ailments either, osmanthus.  The evidence is clearly showing that it leads to some harm.

Considering that there is absolutely no evidence that sex during menses leads to anything of the sort

    Juuuuust wait.
