truthfully i think i proved to him using the quran that the translation is not considered "the word of god". this is progress however small it is.

And his faith in such beliefs involves thinking they are not constructed by him, but actually revealed to him by God by various means such as the Quran or whatnot.

Yet, he still believes his beliefs are right in an absolute sense.

+1 it seems he has become Muslim as some kind of black empowerment thing when the true islam is nothing but. The true Islam (attempts) to bring all races to an equal footing but there is absolutely no "black empowerment" if anything blacks were kinda shit on before and and Islam came.

I understand the early Muslims were paranoid that it would become corrupted like the previous revelations, so they were very, very anal retentively protective over it, but there was no command from Allah that it should never be translated. The idea that "all Muslims must learn Arabic" is tradition, not obligatory command. A cool tradition, I admit, but not vital to practicing Islam, no.

Actually I see what you mean. He has find identity in a religion that denigrates & refuses to acknowledge any progress made by the West since the religions inception, and in doing so inflates his own sense of tribal superiority.
