     far away hug

Here's how I'm dealing with my depression: I'm not. I'd feel too guilty asking my parents to pay for therapy and meds, and I'm not even sure the meds will work.

I'm going to have to do something, though. Haven't been going to school, but the principal's called my parents today and has arranged for a meeting tomorrow. I don't think he's going to expel me, but if I miss anymore days (and there's a good chance I will) he might.

So I'll either have to start getting proactive about being treated, and hope that works out, OR, well, just give up.

I take Fluoxetine. The effect is subtle, but it’s there. They are not happy pills. But they help.

thanks,  I got this thing caled Citalopram Teva at home and its for depression, a doc gave it to my mom who for some reason made it up, so im thinking of trying that but not if it makes me worse  wacko

    thanks hugs
im exactly like you, I dont do anything about it and its not like I feel like doing anything .. but problem is im skipping uni too, and im already half way through my first semester and ive only read in my books like twice  lipsrsealed im hundreds of pages behind but just cant seem to force myself to do anything about it.. it sounds lazy and childish but all I want to do is go into my own mind univers: watch my tv shows and movies,.. and read a book.. its become so bad that im even reading non school related books in class banghead but I cant help it.. I need the escape of it... or ill just break down in front of people...

but this is uni, I cant keep ditching it all and lie to everyone by pretend to keep up with my school work.. im stressed about failing my exam but that only makes me go further into my own univers and block everything out..

    Thanks, Lara Smiley

And... to be honest, I don't know. The thing with depression is that you stop caring about everything, including helping yourself.

I can mostly relate to that and am still feeling that way plus i have an exam tomorrow which im not fully prepared but im going to write anyway, though its different case from yours.

For starters, would it be easier if you can change your course to the one you like?

My only advice to you is under any circumstances, please do not take any pills unless its prescribed by a medical doctor , if not you will make things worse for yourself.

They put me on citaprolam for a while. Sucked big time. Took away all my energy, just felt like a zombie, and could not cum on it-- three weeks could get hard but no orgasm-- then they put me onto another SSRI (fluexotine/prozac) and in combo with the NDRI I was already on (bupropion) worked better, only bad side effect was I gained weight.

If you see your doc about it and they want to put you on an SSRI I'd recommend having them put you on fluexotine/prozac to try first as it's well tolerated in most patients, has a low incidence of side-effects, and has been around for a lot longer than most on the market so has been studied better over time. Bupropion is also well-tolerated but has a different mechanism of action is a bit of an upper (has similar mechanism of action to meth) so if you have a tendency to get manic may not be good for you. Of course you may be bipolar in which case a mood stabilizer like lithium citrate might do better for you than antidepressants.

All in all I suggest you do research on what condition you may have before seeing a doctor (then run it by them see if it makes sense to them) and also do research on the different kinds of medication used to treat it, their mechanism of action, effectiveness, potential side-effects, that way you're knowledgeable when you go in to get something prescribed. Doctors/psychiatrists can sometimes get annoyed by laymen basically diagnosing themselves and essentially writing their own scripts (luckily that hasn't been a problem for me), but I figure I've known myself for 35 years and am pretty smart so in some ways am in a better position to judge what's best for my mental health than someone who's known me for 30 minutes, provided I've done the research as to the conditions and medications.

    fuck you

But chocolate releases chemicals called phenols that make you feel good... until you get morbidly obese.

is anyone take any antidepressants right now? im thinking about taking them.. I dont even know if im depressed or not but im just always sad, like sometimes im super hyper but also sad at the same time.. im not suicidal in any way, im just very apathetic (if thats the word for it) most of the time, and can then sudenly become full of emotions and sadness and get all teary eyed even around people, on the bus or in class,, just wherever really.. ive always been this way.. is this depression or just life fucking with me?

im thinking about taking some pills, anyone who does it??? do they work?

They certainly do , Babe. I was exactly as you describe and didn't do anything about it until I was 56 yrs old. Go see a psycho and find out what's up and then take appropriate meds.  In my case it's the lowest possible dose of blockers because, thank goodness, I'm extremely sensitive to most drugs.

Was probably already mentioned, but for anyone suffering from depression, has anyone tried exercise? It also releases endorphins and other feel good highs without the calories and guilt from chocolate. Seriously, go for a walk, take up swimming or hit the gym, it'll do wonders.

I think the form of depression I have is a form of escapism and to do with over-analysing/thinking about things, over and over and over and over again and again and again and I get sick of my own mind.....

Almost like I'm trapped in my head and I want to just leave for a bit....hence the over sleeping is attractive to disappear....

    I do the same, stardust.

Actually, I was just thinking the other day, "I'm so sick of my brain! Can I get a break from it?"  finmad

I need a break from myself sometimes.  wacko Hence, tendency for escapism.

Thank god none of you have to deal with the severity of depression. Seriously so lucky, yet we all still can't appreciate what we have. Meh life is so pointless yet worthy at times. I gave up hope months ago, when the suicidal thoughts never subsided and the medication failed to help me. No therapist or counsellor managed to help me out of my manic depression, and a month in a mental institution did not make me realise life was worth living. And do you know why nothing helped? Why I feel like I'm still lost in my own hell pit? Because as long as I don't want to help myself, nothing else will.

You are your own remedy, and your own enemy.
