I actually thought the muslim man I married was liberal because he was a completely different man when I first met him. I think the risk with guys who appear liberal is that they can switch to fundamentalists at any time.
That's the problem i think liberal-muslim is kinda a paradox, maybe lot of young muslims appear liberal or even have sincere liberal views, but when they get older they began to think further and understand that they have to make a choice, and most of them turn back to they religion's fundamentalism
Some Muslim women like a man to be - let's say - a little misogynistic - that's what they have been used to expecting and they don't know how to react to one who isn't. They even see your soft and equality stance as a weakness in you!
I have personally suffered from this phenomena!
But how things can advance if even the victims aren't trying to make a change? i mean what are we supposed to do for making them understand that those guys aren't weak but trying to help em, and that it is even a strength, that they are even more respectful than the other stupid machos??
Yeah Hass, I've come across the same thing in Arabic communities. Be a man, be angry, be dominant.
BE STUPID, BE A JERK!!
women in the arab world or at least in egypt.. are used to have all there opinions criticized as being naive and less intelligent so they find it a liberal guy kinda weird. Try standing with egy girls and tell them "intelligence has nothing to do with gender".
Believe me i tried, that's one of the reason i haven't a GF
