Books vs e-Books

I know that e-Books have gained hugely in popularity since the release of hand-held reading contraptions like the amazon kindle and the ipad but I wonder how many people actually enjoy the experience of reading off a screen?

For me, I have to say, there is something very tiring and bothersome about reading a good 2/300 pages off of a screen. Perhaps this is just a conditioned preference, but the feel of a book in your hands unfortunately cannot be replicated.

Books all the time for me. I only ever read e-books out of desperation.

I like owning a real book. Much better than E-books. E-books are cool but I prefer real books.

I prefer real books. Find it tiresome to read a certain amount of pages on a screen. Besides I can write notes in a book, but can't do that on an ebook.

I wish I liked e-books, because they would save so much paper. But I don't. Sigh.
I don't even like reading 12page papers on-screen, let alone 300+

I like real books cuz i get distracted easily but on the portability section i would defiantly go for ebook

I prefer reading a real book but tbh e-books dont bother me much. i've just read about 200 pages of one this past week actually.

from when i was little i have read stories/books online and then as i got older i've downloaded them in pdf formats. this is partly because some books i'v not been comfortable with accessing from a library and partly because i've always accumulated ridiculous fines on my library cards and those of my family members (which i borrow when i get a fine on mine reaching up to 20$, i currently have a fine of 20+$ on my moms card, mine, and my sisters of which only one card's fine is not my fault) and my brother has been kind enough to lend his card for me to sign a book out this week.

back to the point, people say ebooks bother them but because i have read so many i have no problems getting as immersed into one as i do with a real book. The only problem is that i love to curl up with a good book. thats all.

I also love collecting books and it's not the same with e-books in that sense. I like to have my book shelves filled up with thick books.

I love books. I read loads and loads. But all media is thanks to the internet is free. I can download an ebook and save a couple of bucks, much like music and films. The pirate book market will grow exponentially mark my words!

It's comforting to hold a book in your hand. It's a tactile sensation. But you do get used to the change of reading it on a screen as opposed to thumbing trough pages. I used to read the papers daily, now i search and find news on the internet via my pc.

In terms of the batch of e readers, dont get a ipad. You'll get eye strain trying to read a book on that. Wait for the notion ink adam. A tablet device which will be awesome to read ebooks ( from the demos) because it can switch from colour to e-ink which is black and white , can be read in sunlight without having to angle it in awkward ways and does not cause eye strain.

You can make notes on ebooks ( depending on the format and software used).

I voted real books btw. Very tiring on the eyes. Plus you can't carry it everywhere.

Haven't tried Kindle yet but maybe in the future the resolution will really be that great.

Books.

Not only to they feel good in your hands, and smell great when you buy them, but they also look great in bookshelves around your house. Or at least to me they do.

I want my stairs to look like this:

I don't like reading on a screen, but then again it's more that I don't like sitting hunched over on my desktop PC reading. I want to be lounging on my sofa, or chilling out under a willow tree somewhere.

I would like to try one of those electronic readers, just to see if my eyes hurt like PC reading.

Well I finished Arthur C. Clarke's 'Space Odyssey' series (2001, 2010, 2061, 3001) on PDF and thoroughly enjoyed it.

But if it was a real book, it would have been even better.

I dislike e-books, but where I live I can't get most of the books I want, so I sometimes have to resort to downloading them in pdf format. Also, when the books I want are available in bookshops, it's usually the French translation and I'd much rather read them in English. Reading on screen is tiring and I get distracted easily when I'm sitting at my computer, and I read much faster when it's a real book. Plus you can't read e-books while on the bus.

Real books, esp when on the kazhi having a sit and a think.
Browsing charity shops for all the books I haven't read yet and then giving them back once read, unless it's a keeper.
Lying on my front at bedtime with a small light on the page for that last mind clearing 20 mins. No gadgetry, just a bookmark.

I love getting lost for an hour in used books shops. The fact that I'm there just looking through the shelf not looking for a specific book, but just seeing if there's something I would want to read. I found some marvelous books in there without even trying. Also they're super cheap

Used books are great. Plus you can find books that are out of print.
