You know, the internet really is something that Islam has never faced before. One of the things it has allowed is the 1600 year death taboo on the criticism of Mohammad to be side-stepped in a very widespread and robust and fearless manner.

Its little-big things like this.......a thousand cuts.

What he said...  Still the internet could also be the birth place of new movements as well...  It is the constant cycle of death and life..

ras... i was beguiled by dawagandists on the internet  Cry  MOST of my studies were online, my
athan was online, and before i got hardcopies, the koran and bukhari were all online.
Also, studied duaas online, and a multitude of forums, and islamic bookstores/study material
ALL online.  I didnt have to go anywhere to get everything i needed/wanted.  Even hard questions
i had were mostly answered already--onlne.  AFter really crappy experiences wih the local
masjid, i felt no guilt staying home, cuz EVERYTHING was online, to include fellowship with other
muslims.  I received my arabic lessons online, too, both practicing memorization, and writing.
Had PLENTY of muslims helping me over audio/video, as well.

I'm guessing it secluded you quite a lot..

most definitely... and going outside with a hijab scared me.  Asian and arabic women with
hijab is tolerable.  A white american woman with a hijab?  Got ALOT of dirty looks, and even
had one guy cuss me out.

When women become more emancipated and the precepts of the immutable nature of Islam are challenged (this will only come after cycles and generations of bloody backlash against those liberalisers)

The alternative is that Islam might just be a faith that will not change.

Indeed that's the key! When the women are awakened and empowered there's a great chance of the immutable becoming mutable. They will force their men to live with them on this earth and not in some jannah with  'metaphorical' virgins.
But hey! isn't Islam supposed to be an utopia for women ? The dawah merchants must be laughing their heads off at your wanting to emancipate sisters, who are automatically emancipated[especially from the decadent free choices of the west] when they convert!

It's a double-edged sword ! Unless, you  retain full control of your senses, you could very easily end up with undesirable results. At least you had the courage to admit you were beguiled and correct yourself. There are some worthies who are in a perennial state of denial.
