    I don't agree with this ruling, but I'm a little taken aback by some of the posts in this thread too.  Especially the poster who thinks its not only acceptable to lie to a woman to get sex, but that if she falls for the lie she should be tried for prostitution.   wacko  This man isn't a rapist, but let's be honest, he did behave like a complete scumbag.

    Ok fine, but the article said that he posed as a Jewish bachelor and she went to him because of that reason.  There was a case of a Hong Kong woman being fooled into having sex with a 60 year old.  She was told that it would cure some sort of ailment she had and she agreed.  There was consent from both sides but it does not make it right either.

    I feel that many members' emotions are clouding their judgment as regards this issue.

    Yes but there are laws and legal guidlines to be followed.

    You're missing the point.  This woman wasn't looking for someone to sleep with, she was looking for a serious relationship, possibly leading to marriage.  Presumably, the family and background she is from would find any non-Jewish husband unacceptable, just as many people on here would have trouble getting their families to accept a bf/gf from a different ethnic/religious background.   To pretend that she had some arbitrary bar against sex with Arabs is trivialising her complaint too much, although I still don't agree that he should have been charged with rape.

    I didn't miss that point at all, I agree with it.  If she'd keyed his car, I'd laugh, but prosecuting him is OTT.  However, the comparison with silver medallists or whatever is missing the point that she wasn't with this man as a fling, she was conned into thinking that there was something more than sex going on.

    I am not saying that one is as bad as the other, but in the end both happened because of the same principle.. consent after false conditions were presented.  The consequences are another issue.  Their magnitude is irrelevant for this argument.  Madoff would not have been able to scam them without their consent either.

     What about my first example?  They guy who consented to having sex with a 13 year old after she lied about her age?  He ended up on the sex offenders list.

    Do you mean lying about your religion is more malicious and reprehensible than lying about having won a silver medal? sure.
    But legally they're the same. I'm not debating the morality of the issue. They guy is a scumbag. I'm debating the court ruling.

    BTW, the article did say that they had sex in a nearby building after they met. I'm not sure fucking someone right after meeting them is inidicative of interest in a long term relationship.

    Maybe, mabye not.  The point I am trying to make is that the attitude of some in this thread that she's some kind of a racist biatch is not borne out by the article itself.  It wasn't as if she expressed any bar against sex with Arab men, she was looking for a Jewish man specifically because she was looking for more than a one night stand.  We all know in a perfect world considerations like that wouldn't come into the search for Mr. or Ms. Right, but in reality they do, and not always because the person is a bigot either.

    I'm not a lawyer so I'm not going to go into any legal semantics, but he introduced himself as a Jew seeking a long term relationship and she consented because she fell for it.  That is fraud, it is deception.  You are taking advantage of another person's ignorance.  It may be considered as deliberate deception which is considered as an offense under various criminal codes

    She was in a nightclub where she was not supposed not to have been by law.  Are you going to blame him?  It is like punishing a rape victim for not arming herself or going out in a big group after she gets assaulted.

    Theft is another charge, but the point is that he would not have been able to carry out that theft had he not intentionally deceived his victims and presented himself as/ or something that was not what it appeared to be.

    Although Kashur was initially charged with rape and indecent assault, this was changed to a charge of rape by deception as part of a plea bargain arrangement.

    No matter how we looked at this. It certainly does make Israel look like a petty and backward country, when they convict someone for rape in such a matter.
