Thanks for the suggestion Ram but I wouldn't even be allowed to enter Saudi Arabia cuz no way would I ever wear such garb, and anyway they would have to get me to believe first before I could remain a believer!  Wink

I am confused. I thought you were against your daughter turning Muslim and now you want to turn Muslim?

Btw I didnt read all the pages

Ah... what it was _truth_ is that I don't believe in any kind of religion and cannot for the life of me understand why anyone does believe in it.  I've tried to understand why my daughter would want to become a muslim and whenever I've tried to talk about it to her I always got a reply such as "well you don't believe in anything so how can you even begin to understand why I would want to do it".   I thought about this and wondered if I had some mental block or something and was doing my daughter a disservice by dismissing it all as fairytale stuff.

Hence the reason I asked if there was anybody who could get me to believe.  My (admittedly twisted  wacko) thinking was that if I could believe myself I would be able to understand where she is coming from.  After I explained my current thoughts on religion and digested what everyone had said I came to the conclusion that I was just immune to it and it was a stupid idea of mine in the first place.   015

she shouts at me, "I can hear your music"
so I quip back, "so can I"
but it's like listening to it through a cymbal

I recommend Buddhism, it isn't exactly a religion but a philosophy. It makes a lot of sense and even compatible with physics. Not like Islam where neo-muslims are so desperate that they claim any ambiguous Ayah scientific.

    Hi Maya

That's an ace introductory thread - a great way to enter the forum....reading that made me smile throughout (there really are some funny b**t***s on this forum).

By being immune from the whole religious experiece during childhood, you proved from an early age that you were made from the right stuff, . I was completely into Islam when was a kid, so I have experienced that elusive thing that you've missed out on. From what I remember, I spent more time being afraid of Allah and what he had in store for me than gaining any comfort from the fact that there was someone bigger out there looking after all of us, making sure that our loved ones had a comfortable retirement when they died....so I guess, from my experience at least, you've done well never to have gone there.

Reading this thread has given me the idea to trawl through a many of these introductory threads as possble. I guess that'll be the best way for me to get to know people on here and to hear some of their stories...

Before I go, an update on my son: he has cried very little over the last few days and the operation has not dampened his spirit or affected his smile. My parents say that they cannot remember anyone taking circumcision so much in their stride before...so, try not to worry too much when it comes to the turn of your grandkids.
