If you have the best part of two hours to spare to sit and listen try Berlioz Requiem. Magnificent.

`You must be,' said the Cat, `or you wouldn't have come here.'

    This. BWV 565.

The best recording ever of J. S. Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D-minor. Riga, the Soviet Union, 1972.

(The melody is not directly religious but Bach (1685 - 1750) was extremely religious (Lutheran) and his "extremism" made him create absolutely awesome works of art to the grace of God)

Tried relaxing to this last night at your recommendation. It's just such a DEPRESSING world view when you understand the lyrics, I couldn't do it. There has to be the admission of some beauty in the world or else what's the point.  Cry

Well, it's not like the nasheed is celebrating life and all it's beauty exactly Tongue  But somehow it has always made the heavy thoughts and feelings I have a little bit easier to handle.

Though I do remember hearing some sufi chanting once that was essentially just saying "Allah" and "La ilaha illallah" over and over again but with a really catchy tune. Of course I can’t search for it because those are all of the “lyrics,” but I still do catch myself humming it from time to time.

Anasheed are a no no, it reminds the kiddo of the jihadi songs her father made her listen and watch... But we still recite Quran in our house, which is really weird. I had the kiddo asking me to recite for her on a number of times, still, and I will always love to listen to Al-Kandari's recitation. :/

Yeah I have an interesting relationship with the Qur’an these days. I still do recite it almost weekly, but I view it entirely differently now, obviously.

But I feel like I’m well beyond the “SEE! IT’S NOT FROM GOD BECAUSE IT SAYS X” phase. I just don’t care about that part anymore since I’m not even expecting it to be entirely accurate, moral, or relevant to modern times.  Instead, my mind wanders a lot to the place of why certain verses are included where they are, especially given the seemingly random nature of the placing of many verses. There seems to be some clear instances of splicing, cutting, and pasting that get me thinking about what circumstances must have led to the text turning out the way it did.

And I still can’t help but reminisce about the incantations of the haunting voice of Hussain Al-ash-Shaikh. It’ll always remind me of tahajjud in Madinah. I’ll post his Suratul Anfal here. It’s pretty much religious music too.

It is very interesting to read quran in this way.
Like when muhammad married wife of zaid, Allah sent down verses regarding marriage with wife of so called son or something like that.
I don't remember the complete story now.

Quran is story book of Muhammad's life.
    Wars, marriages ... etc etc.
    Funny book.
    ☺☺
    You will enjoy it.
