    I've been wondering when and if the ex muslim movement goes mainstream and starts to become part of consciousness in the west.

    I think being an ex-muslim selects one for being less political, more introspective and have a lower tribal and collective instinct.

    But surely there is a need for more politically oriented ex muslims who believe in expanding outreach and expanding the scope of work for ex-muslim causes.

    Do you think ex-muslim causes will gain critical mass anytime soon?

    Depends on what the cause is. If its to expose Islam and issue some new revolution where the masses leave the religion then I think that's highly unlikely. If the cause is to aid ex-muslims, and make it less of a taboo, make it okay to be there in the public and state your views, then that is reasonable and likely and very much needed. This will help the former cause because it will numb down one extreme aspect of the followers and make it more likely people will leave.

    What also falls into this issue is the reformation/liberalization of Islamic states and that will contribute to the rise of these causes or the rise in such causes will contribute to reformation. As for the causes reaching critical masses soon...I don't know, but I highly doubt it's going to be anytime soon. There's not much urging closet ex-muslims to step out and do what we can esp when tied down by family and the fear of going truly public. Perhaps following generations/childrens of ex-muslims will not be so tied down by family and will be able to do more.

    naah, i am not talkin about revolution or something, i am talking about the type of work CEMB does but done with a mind to scale up, actively seek people out of the closet, seek more funding to support those people.

    in my opinion, the internet is the best way to increase reach and seek more funding.

    a few more charismatic and brave people willing to speak up in public won't hurt either. the thing is to make the de facto oppression a part of public consciousness.

    There's always the real risk to personal safety thanks to the nutters so it would be hard to gain a lot of momentum.

    hmmm, yeah. which is why the internet is the only way to reach critical mass without a safety risk.

    I think providing help like that is a real possibility even outside of the internet but its a difficult endeavour. What would be the scale? local? It's easier in non-muslim country to create some organization for this issue because there's less fear of being shot. Even when I type in ex-muslim on google though, I don't get much results in terms of anyone doing anything or providing help. I'd love to get involved some day though, because it'd have been great for myself and others to have had some help during this time. Especially for young ex-muslims or ex-muslims stuck in muslim countries.

    A lot of people in cultish religions and groups face very similar issues too. I think it would be great to have some sort of outreach programme to people of all faiths as I think there are a lot of 'pretend' believers that want out but don't know how.
    Specialist divisions dealing with high-risk groups like muslims would obviously play a big role.

    I would love to be involved in something like that too, but I just don't know how :(

    I'm just not the type of person that's good at planning and taking initiatives. And I guess like many people, I don't have the money either! :(

    But we can hope, and I'm definitely in for the revolution  dance

    Well CEMB is a start and it has much potential to go mainstream - it's still early days. Smiley

    a good enough mobilizer could easily raise millions for this cause (though it'll probably have to come from dubious sources like the american right).

    There are hundreds - probably thousands of silent ex-Muslims in the UK and even more elsewhere if only we could reach them.

    We certainly need some huge high profile act that will catch their attention.

    Making a Youtube videos is helpful - but we need more.

    I can easily knock up a quick promotional video for CEMB - I have a couple of hours right now - if others think it will help.

    thats a good start. once there is a big enough pool, then you could probably form a core of people who have integrity and political / logistical / media savvy(hopefully there will be some). something big could happen with the rest playing a support role.

    if you get big enough, you could get the big names on your side too (rushdie and company, dawkins will endorse Smiley ). sounds exciting to me.

    At the time I was inquisitive about other Muslims who'd left Islam and I accidentally stumbled upon one of his videos and found the link to the forum in his channel.

    Let's make a dating website for ex-Muslims.

    So all ex-Muslims can subscribe and find their perfect ex-Muslim mate that they can introduce to their strict Muslim family and being he/she an ex-Muslim he/she can easily pretend to be Muslim in front of said strict family and so everyone is happy and satisfied ^_^
    Do not look directly at the operational end of the device.
