8 of those I know in real life; the rest are online friends.

We have a constitution that is mostly secular, but alas Islamists have had their way into it. The constitution guarantees the freedom of belief for everybody; however, you cannot express in public anything which goes against their religion or their bloated, sinister deity. All in all, it's the best you can ask for in an Arab country.

How come its so secular for an Arab state?  Is it more liberal & open than Egypt & Syria?

Because prior to 1961, Kuwait was under protection of Britain. When we gained independence, a constitution was made which was largely secular. Kuwait has always had a great number of outspoken secular politicians, journalists, and thinkers.

I've never been to either countries, so I've no idea. But I hear the political climate (not necessarily religious) is pretty unstable over there.

Haha, that has nothing to do with it. I have good English because I studied in American schools throughout my life. We have plenty of American and British schools for different educational levels over here.

Ridiculous supernatural claims like those definitely had a lot to do with it. But I think the very first thing that got me thinking was "Why do I get to go to heaven for simply being born a Muslim?"; "Why does a mere accident of birth dictate one's destiny?"; "Why do people who were not "lucky" enough to have been born Muslim deserve to go to hell simply because they were not born Muslim?". One question led to another. Then I decided to study religion objectively, which led me to the realization that religion is based on nothing but ridiculous claims (like the ones you mentioned, and much more), in addition to Quran and Sunna reeking of violence, dogma, homophobia, sexism, and the fact that a lot of material in them was downright ripped-off of the Bible and other old scriptures. At that point it was so obvious to me that Islam, like any other religion, was man-made.

Egypt is not exactly a liberal beacon in the Middle East. I've lived there and I found out that even their middle class is relatively conservative. The most liberal Arab country is Lebanon followed by Syria, pre-2003 Iraq (now it's getting worse), and Bahrain. Kuwait is up there in the top 5. And I hear Tunisia and Morocco are also liberal but I haven't been there.

    Welcome Zodiac shloonk shakhbark =D
