This is actually a major blow on both Christians/Muslims and scientists.
The scientists, because it basically takes a dump on the works of scientists i.e science. And Christians/Muslims because when physicists realized the "fine-tuning" of the universe. Christians/Muslims have been saying "Aha! look we have been saying that there is a Designer all along".
I dont understand how the laws can change from one universe to the next

For me it'll change my concept of physics should it be true

However whether proven or not I fail to see how it debunks theist arguments, other than in fact strengthen them. If science can be rubbished like this, then the belief that their is a god (or Gods for each universe) fine tuning each universe becomes all the more plausible
No it
would debunk what the Christian and Muslim theists have been saying thus far.
Christians are creationists. Whichever Christian doesnt believe in creationism to me is a heretic.
- Islam says that within the "heavens and the earth" (a scientifically invalid phrase) there are "signs". The Quran devotes much in simply stating how an object on the planet or space (sun, moon etc) are "proofs" of Allah.
When a reasoning such as this is made, one has to not go anything beyond mere observation of any physical object and phenomena and saying this is how God intended it to be and thats all there is to it. There is no thinking of otherwise, to do so would be heresy. As its straying away from the Will of Allah.
- Therefore the "apparentness" of the universe is an absolute uncontestable fact. In Islam this is the very basis for the validity of Allah. As Allah is the Designer/Fashioner.
- Muslims assert this further by the belief that without God, the universe will be chaos. And Allah is the measuring stick that brings order/structure into everything.
- Muslims say that the very purpose of mankind by Allah was to venerate him. So it goes back to our mundane existence, this supposed "apparentness" as being thats all there is to it, there is no other reality as we think of to speak of because thats exactly how Allah intended it.
In short, the Quran says; "look at the world around you, it being the way it is, it is so amazing, it must be the work of someone, so how can you deny your Lord, Allah?"
