I used to walk into that crocodile pit every day to help clean it when I was there. It was nicknamed "NewYork New York" because of how so many eyes lit up at night when you put a flashlight on there. Ah I miss that place. I hope I can go back soon. its been 9 years since I been there I think.

That's not a picture of mars that is the earth, mars has no liquid water as far as we currently aware, and secondly mar's magnetic field is very low because unlike earth it does not have a inner dynamo core, so it would not produce the aurora, and also mars has no carbon life therefore it doesn't have any vegetation, i.e. grass trees, etc. However still a nice picture  though, but certainly not mars.

Wow, almost looks fake. So the lighting is created by the dust cloud erupting from the volcano, due to dust particle static, thats sick!

I remembered I had an argument with someone when I was debating with him about abiogenesis, he said lightning could not have happened due to their not being any ice, totally forgot about volcanos!

The people in a village on the Niger River in Africa were losing fellow villagers at a rapid rate, and called in the army, which shot a > 7 m, 1200 Kg crocodile.

There's a beautiful documentary on BBC iPlayer right now, on wolves.

    A Wolf Called Storm
"Storm is an extraordinary wolf - the head of a pack in Canada's frozen north that hunts the giant buffalo herds. This pack came to fame in Frozen Planet and now cameraman Jeff Turner spends a year with Storm and his wolf family, learning how they survive in this harsh wilderness and whether Storm can pass his hunting skills on to the new generation of wolf cubs."

OMFG why did they have to kill it? Crocodiles of that size are really rare so they should have at least shipped it off to a zoo or animal sanctuary.

And plus crocodiles are sooo cute!

I've been watching and it's brilliant, like everything that Attenborough does.

Just watching Professor Brian Cox's Wonders of Life now. Attenborough has said recently that he thinks Cox could take over from him fronting the making of natural history programmes when he retires. Great choice I think.

The Africa documentary is great!  I posted about it in the documentaries thread.

The other documentary called Wonders of Life by Brian Cox is amazing too. I'm also watching it right now.  He's a physicist but he's talking mainly biology/evolution and does a great job too.  Super-fascinating stuff!

Yeah, it was a really sweet thing to say. He's such a gent. And Prof. Cox was made up by it. I think he's a great choice too. He's already a national treasure, even among the younger demographic. He just appeared overnight and he was suddenly everywhere.

These incredible looking flowers are monkey orchids. There are two species shown here, Dracula simia (the ones that look like monkey faces) and Orchis simia (which resemble little dancing monkeys).
Dracula simia are only found in the cloud forests of southeastern Ecuador at elevations of 1000 to 2000 meters and their flowers smell likes ripe oranges. Orchis simia are found in Europe, the Mediterranean, Russia, Asia Minor and Iran and the flowers smell strongly of feces!
