The fungus controls that bit of their nervous system making them go up something so that the spores spread most effectively.

And the ants dispose of the body probably out of instinct seeing that moving diseased individuals reduces the cross infection rates.

Our good friend, evolution, did it, matey.
Those ants that did not evolve this instinct died out.

thanks for posting that. Really enjoyed watching it. I'm glad those two guys set Christian into the wild. A lion's birthright is to stride with majesty in the wild not be domesticated by apes such as ourselves.
did you watch the whole lot on youtube or just part 1 that I posted? It really is one of the best things of its type Ive seen, so the whole thing is worth watching.

And so it should be on that showing - imagine a million fish suppers later - no more fish. I'll stick to a rod and line - I catch nothing but the scenery on Anglesey's great.

why's it illegal? Were the fish jumping into the boat because of the light?

Several types of fish, including some carp, shad, and whitefish get disturbed by engine noise, or banging the sides of a metal boat, and jump out of the water.
Last I checked, using a spotlight to find fish isn't illegal. As far as keeping them if they jump in the boat, I would think it depends on the species.

In parts of the Arctic, fields of snow turn into meadows and flourish with life as thousands of caribou end their migration of hundreds of miles. Amazing timelapse footage from the BBC natural history programme

Maybe - but why would you buy one?
For science its fine, but if you want to marvel at artifical fish inside you own home, why not go one step further and buy battery operated plastic fish with front & back headlights?

The Census of Marine life has released the findings of ten years of research and exploration of the world's oceans. The first-ever study of its kind, involving 2700 scientists from 80 nations, identified more than 6000 potentially new species, and will help researchers observe how marine populations change in response to events like oil spills and climate change.

Wow! Gorgeous beast. Thats a great shot.
Here's another one in a million animal, the Golden Tabby Tiger:
The very unusual Golden Tabby Tiger, sometimes known as Strawberry Tiger, has light gold fur, pale legs and faint orange stripes. Its fur tends to be much thicker than normal. There are extremely few Golden Tabby Tigers in captivity, around 30 in all.
A Golden Tabby Tiger is one with an extremely rare color variation caused by a recessive gene and is currently only found in captive tigers. It is a color form and not a separate species. These tigers tend to be larger and all Golden Tabby Tigers have mainly Bengal parentage like their cousins - the White Tigers.
