Hello..My father passed away and my mother did not like it at first but acceped the fact that it made my life better.

My question is ...just because I chose to visit this site to observe and understand, why are people not trying to help me see the true reason for leaving Islam, instead of trying to chew me up and spit me out? I am not the enemy...oops I guess I am...why not take it up with the one who created them and not the one who is trying to learn?

I am sorry to hear about your father. How has Islam in particular made your life better? I'm not talking about social gatherings or learning new ways to say things, I mean the the religion itself.

Trust me, your mother is 100 times better then most of our parents. Muslim parents can simply not let go of their children leaving their religion.

Perhaps there is more than one reason for leaving Islam, and all of those are "true" to the person to whom they apply.

Question: What sort of Christianity did you come out of, and how adherent / educated in it were you? I'm just curious.

Ok, I've settled down now. Welcome to the forum. Just a bit about me. I'm an American who converted to Islam out of a personally agnostic, though Christian background when I was 19. I lived a very religious life for 17 years. It took me about 10 years of stuffing down my doubts to finally admit that Islam wasn't what it claimed to be. I left Islam when I was 36. I'm now 39.

So I definitely understand where you're coming from and I'm glad you found this site. I was also shocked when I first came across apostates online. I now understand that there are a lot of defense mechanisms at play in the psychology of adhering to religion which are in play when learning to deal with the cognitive dissonance that eventually develops inside a thinking believer. The mind is incredibly adaptive at times and finds all sorts of ways to explain away or walk away from serious contradictions it encounters. Just my observation on myself in the past and the little I have read of your thoughts in the present.

Anyway, welcome again and I think you'll learn a lot about what led us to our current understanding of the nature of Islam if you stick around a while. You'll need some thick skin at times, but it's well worth your while. The cool thing is, you'll either realize that the best arguments against Islam don't hold any weight and thus strengthen your faith, or you'll realize that Islam isn't the truth. Either way, you stand to benefit, so I hope you'll give it a go.

Read The chapter about Isa and Mary. It gets confusing when suddenly Miriam, Moses' sister, and Miriam, the mother of Isa get mixed up.
