Lara, I love your avatar 001_wub

@ thread; I'm not much of movie fan, and I rarely ever choose to watch movies, but if I was to pick a few that made me think twice about life and are actually originally books:

    • The Lovely Bones
    • A Walk To Remember
    • Ps. I Love You
    • A Streetcar Named Desire

Obviously I prefer the books way over the movie versions, but atleast this is pertinent to the OP.

The Lovely Bones was definitely a mind blowing, thought provoking movie.
The soundtrack was amazing too!  Another movie that was seriously thought
provoking was "Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence"..

13 love those, especially Ps. I love you.

The movie was a disappointment I enjoyed endevouring the book way too much than the movie.

I shall do a quick search of "let me watch this", and find out what it's all about. Although as I said I prefer reading and experiencing the book rather than being a bystander watching it on a tv screen.

Oh absolutely JnT, absolutely. It chilled me right through my spine, it was probably one of the best book depictions I have ever seen, included A Streetcar Named Desire, which is just as mind chilling if not more.

I think i've heard of Merry Chrismas, Mr Lawrence before, will check that out soon too, it reminds of A Christmas Carol, which is obviously an amazing depiction of Dickinson's work.

zaiba... merry xmas, mr. lawrence was about a japanese POW camp.
David Bowie starred in it.  I HIGHLY recommend it.  I believed it was
    also based on true events.

Its not a movie, But watching CSI made me become interested in Science more than when i was in High school and the part where Gil Grissom claim he doesnt believe in Religion. It happen coincidently when i was questioning the whole organized religion itself, it was kinda like a Push.

Scarface, i know i know That Tony Montana died but for me i was focusing on the mistakes he made which lead to his death.

Aviator : I find Howard Hughes interesting and i admire him. Despite his OCD he became the richest man in the world and a risk taker as well. One of the few men who succesfully run a business in a volatile industry which is airline

Well read it then, its a beautiful love story.

Wish I had the longing to read books, but honestly just cant make myself do it no matter how wonderful the story is. I sometimes feel stupid for not reading, but I just think movies are more my thing, I dont have the energy to spend hours and hours reading when I can watch the movie in two hours  whistling2

OMG I am completely the opposite. I rather endevour and immerse myself in a book and be lost in it for hours than have it over and done with in two hours. Smiley

Sounds incredibly interesting, will definitely check it out. It reminds me of this book i've been meaning to read, "men who stare at goats". It's quite popular so you probably have heard of it.

I don't think any movies have changed my life, but some have made me think about life itself. Here are a few:

I've watched it since, it's pretty tame. You'll be fine

But - without going into detail - i had things happen in my childhood that cause me extreme amounts of fear, and watching that around 7 years old, it pushed me over the edge. Fucking scared me shitless, I hallucinated he was coming for me in the shadows. After that I had a pathological fear of the dark, I didn't think freddy was coming for me, I just didn't feel ok in the dark after that.

Zaiba... Merry Xmas, Mr. Lawrence is a very serious flick.
    But certainly thought provoking.

Just saw 127 hours. Pretty mind-blowing film, particularly looking at how we can isolate ourselves from humanity because we feel like we don't need anyone, when really we all need people to survive and thrive. I would also add "Yes Man" with Jim Carrey, despite being a pretty shit comedy, made me really think about how I  was living my life and rejecting possible opportunities to improve it.

Well each movie affected me certainly but not in a life changing manner.

I'm open for debate (of why we should re-/embrace Islam), but I will no longer participate in this forum. Message me if you need anything. Good luck and may you all find your way... again...

Thank You for Smoking.  Not a whole life changer but it certainly opens your eyes to looking at things in a different way.

So once again I'm left with the classic Irish man's dilemma, do I eat the potato or do I let it ferment so I can drink it later?

I would say Disney movies. I believe that they had an effect on my personality as a kid and teenager.

I relate to Mulan the most. My mom says now that Mulan had a big effect on me. I mean this movie is about a girl who doesn't give a shit about gender roles or society, who thinks she's worth more than what people wants her to be,and who disguises as a male soldier. It's like the movie was made for me lol
