I tend to answer such questions from my own weird evolutionary angle. We are primates who are very social and hierarchical so when we think of God we think of a big alpha male leading the group of Trousered Apes. And this God has to feel powerful and above its subjects. So 'comrade' or 'brainchild' would not be a fitting attribute for its subjects.

Because Allah is a despot, a big hairy patriarch with a giant chip on his shoulder. To be fair I never noticed this term as "derogatory" growing up as a Muslim. I guess because it was one of those things your parents implant into your brain that it is somehow "okay" to be a slave to some invisible being just because he created you.

You could just substitute Allah for Yahweh. They are the same god anyway.

Because Islam was made by men to control women and men, and you can control them by willingly making them slaves of a god for him they conveniently happen to be the emissaries on earth for, and not just that, making them think they are righteous by being a slave.

MAB, I was just using the phrase, that I have located from my memory bank as being Naipaul's, and extending it to how Islam requires your soul to be slave to Allah, ie: Islam maxes out its credit cards on both accounts.
