  • Changing country of residence? Suggestions, ideas?
     OP - October 06, 2010, 10:07 PM

    hey,

i've been thinking about changing residence / nationality as i look to plan what seem to be another 50 years of life ahead of me.

i am unpatriotic and self interested but i realize that no matter what, india will never be as rich / safe / under sound government as some of the western countries.

what do you think? any suggestions?

Why you not putting UK on the list?

Because, overall, it doesn't have a high a standard of living as those 3 countries, I think.

All alright, I would presume. Though I heard that racism in Australia is a wee* more prevalent specially outside the major cities. Yous should ask Osmanthus though.

not sure about the immigration status but once you get the immigration its 3 years and you are a citizen !!

not sure if you can become a citizen in any European country that quickly

yeah, i'd def go there if it didn't take so goddamn long to get a PR / citizenship. most likely to be headed there anyway within the next year or two on an internal company transfer.

Canada is the most peaceful country, and best to live in. For job, not so much.. But still the welfare and healthcare system beats all.

Immigration to Canada can take roughly around 3 years. Once you lived in Canada for full three years (after deducting the time you were away), you can apply for citizenship, which roughly takes about another year.

Anyways, Canada is the fastest in giving citizenship compared to other countries I think..

Well, in Canada, getting a job can be a painful process. They take upto two months or more to even hire you for few months contract. Other times you get lucky. It is more of a hit and miss. But if you have some skill that is in demand and short in supply, you wouldn't even have to wait for one month before you are on the job. Now it is on your luck that the skill of yours remain in demand for some time until your job gets very stable.

You might have good luck in Peoplesoft or SAP. Not so much in .NET or Java.

But again, if you are applying for immigration now, it will take you three years anyways before you come to Canada. And by that time demands might change. (Even by searching my post by google, many people might start doing that and will increase your competition.)
