    One claim is that the services (education and police) are harder on them, however, I don't believe that is the primary reason for so many black men being in prison.

    Perhaps (just guessing), black culture IN REGARDS TO the hiphop and 'gangsta' culture Roll Eyes ) is simply retarded and fails to produce anything but ridiculous movie-scene impracticalities which are glamorized in hollywood, such as punching and rapping your way to success in a car park and carrying a gun?

    I assume that young black men are brainwashed into thinking that acting out what a hiphop star says (but doesn't actually do) and carrying guns like black movie stars (who don't in real life)  is a good way to get success;
    Essentially someone replicating 'jackass'  for the fun of it , but to a much more law breaking standard;
    A parody-esque version of a character that doesn't actually exist.
    (and who would immediately end up in prison if the character was real....like the black guys who copy it)

    In conclusion: alot of black men are just f*cking idiots..

      Afro Blacks aren't usually from well off backgrounds and the gangster culture is quite prominent amongst them.

    But other immigrants often come from deprived cultures and their incarceration rate is below the average (e.g. hindus).

    A few people have mentioned this already - so why is there a "gangsta" culture amongst blacks?

    Yeah true, distrust is very high in the black community of authority. Not only in UK I'd argue but in many Western countries incl. US

    I'm sceptical the hip hop culture really plays a big role compared to things like education and wealth.

    I think its a circular cause.

    Some black people aren't intelligent, they see characters who are ultra-cool and rich and got there by 'bein a boy from da hood' and 'killin nigga's wiv a 5.0 and droppin some dope rhymes,word to ya mother'

    So they copy it, based on the notion that it leads to the success they can't gain any other way and its 'cool', and I suppose by default that , if being 'cool' is carrying a gun and riding wiv big rims and jeans too ya kneez, then carrying a book and wearing a suit must be the opposite...?

    Chris rock goes off on alot of tangets about this alot and about how 'the white man was POWER'....maybe the white man has 'power' because the white man knows 2fast2furious is just a movie....?

    I think that is just bullshit and all just based on stereotypes. That a TV screen has made it "cool" to commit crime. In many cases it is factors which lead to criminal activity whether it is lack of money (due to many being in poor households) or a drug dependency and a lack of education to fund it legitimately leading them to be vulnerable to being in a gang. Not to mention the fucking postcode wars ....   finmad
    When they are incarcerated after being charged. The system fails to educate them to help break the cycle so when they leave. No one would hire a criminal, homeless and/or drug dependency comes back which leads to. Shock and horror, crime again  Roll Eyes

    Do you deny any connection between the consistent hollywood/music industry role of black men being 'cool and rich' for speaking in a ridiculous way, wearing mass bling , carrying a gun and breaking the law , and a consistent gang system of speaking in a ridiculous way, wearing mass bling , carrying a gun and breaking the law?

    I've met many of these so called 'misunderstood' youths in my time (Im still young myself), I cant help but see a direct comparison between any B grade hiphop/movie stars portrayed actions on screen and these morons actions in real life.

    It's one big television set, only on this set, you get your ass kicked by the police...
  • Re: Question: Why are more black people in prisons?
     Reply #15 - October 11, 2010, 07:43 PM

    I think it has a role in particular in US but to suggest it plays a significant role in causing criminal activity amongst the British black youth is misguided when there are so many other factors which I would argue are the main causes of this.

    Even if you could get rid of the culture, I doubt it would solve anything anyway. Just stereotypes that this is causing crime. Many commit crime for reasons outside of "I want to wear bling"  Roll Eyes

    Mighty cats is a person who has had a childhood of the same standards that many of the black kids in question have had...yet I didn't choose to act like the fool, put myself into such a retarded situation, get what I deserved, then complained that the system was the problem.

    When they get incarcerated.....often after purposely putting themselves in there, by knowing full well what will happen because of their actions

    The system fails to educate them to help break the cycle......a cycle which THEY put themselves in, unlike many other groups...an education which they rejected

    You start off your argument as an apologetics for peoples behavior...ignoring the fact that some of these people start the fucking cycle Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

    Im saying that black culture in certain places is more inclined to glamorize and deaden the reality of the situation that carrying guns, joining gangs, drug dealing and shooting people will get your ass put in jail.....then people come along and claim that the response to their actions (jail) is causing the problem...when the problem started long before, and started with them. "in certain places"
    That's a nice change from:

    Perhaps (just guessing), black culture (and possibly the hiphop and 'gangsta' culture Roll Eyes ) is simply retarded

    Fucking stick to one thing
    Is black culture retarded or is it just "certain places".
    Oh and WTF is "black culture". I'm curious. Is there some sort of text book dictionary definition I'm unaware of.
