What's to explain? Being straight or gay doesn't make someone more or less able to be a parent. You can be a good or bad parent whatever your sexuality. Only reason I can see anyone even asking is either for religious or cultural reasons.

`But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.
`Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: `we're all mad here. I'm mad.  You're mad.'
`How do you know I'm mad?' said Alice.
`You must be,' said the Cat, `or you wouldn't have come here.'

For me it depends. but as long as a parent loves his son and take full of his responsibility it wouldn't be matter if he's a gay.

Voted other. Good parents are more important than if they are heterosexual or homosexual. Beside the sampling of homosexual parenting is so small compared to that of heterosexual drawing a conclusion is a mistake. Besides there are far more factors in parenting then just sexual orientation; religion, cultural, ideology, politics, income, education, etc. Also keep in mind the sampling data for dysfunction families, parents and children have been mostly based on heterosexual parents not homosexual parents.

I have a gay parent. I can assure you that they are the same as all other parents, but I did notice one difference among my peers (other children of committed gay parents, as I did not know any other single gay parent). Most of them were very supported by their parents in their goals and are now quite successful. Same sex marriage was illegal here until last year. My theory is that the gay parents of children of my generation had to be very committed to family and overcome a lot of odds, and this determination and commitment had some good results. They also typically had smaller families, which often gave them better resources.

Makes sense that gay parents would be more supporting, but regardless there doesn't seem to be any plus or minus to being a parent who happens to be gay. I guess there's unlikely to be any problems with them accepting a gay child, if nothing else.

    I voted other... here's why...

Good Idea: Having any parents at all, regardless of of their gender and orientation.

Bad Idea: Asking your parents about their sex life.

Well, my mother would get all tight lipped and clam up if I dared to inquire into any of her history. So that is probably why it would be a bad topic, because parents get pissed if you ask them about it.

Parents should talk about it though, but whatever.

Yes, they should. But it just never seems to work out that way.

Other--it's neutral. Kids raised by gay or lesbian parents don't seem to have any special advantages or disadvantages over others in society, so long as the society is accepting and tolerant. If the children are bullied because of their parents they may have psychological problems but that is the exception and not the norm. However, if the parents are repressed homosexuals and in some way take that out on the child, that causes basically the same level of harm as an opposite-gender parent doing the same thing.
