I read that when I was younger and saw a play inspired by it last month.  It's a good read.

So once again I'm left with the classic Irish man's dilemma, do I eat the potato or do I let it ferment so I can drink it later?

    Little Fly, Thy summer's play
My thoughtless hand has brushed away.

I too dance and drink, and sing,
Till some blind hand shall brush my wing.

Therefore I am a happy fly,
If I live or if I die.

I've started reading Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse.

Great book. I actually prefer it to Steppenwolf, but Steppenwolf is a good read too.

At the moment I have this massive tome on the go:

John Richardson’s 2nd volume of A Life of Picasso, detailing the years 1907–1917.

Moral Relativism: A Short Introduction by Neil Levy.

    Quote
This enlightening new introduction examines the history and development of moral relativism, considering the arguments for and against, and also covering such key topics as terrorism, and the rights of women in oppressive cultures.

Just started out, its good to go back over the basics.  I like his writing style too, he uses a lot of examples and has a relaxed exposition.

    Recommendation:

If you do like a good short fiction book read

    Bel Canto by Ann Patchett

    Quote
Somewhere in South America, at the home of the country's vice president, a lavish birthday party is being held in honor of Mr. Hosokawa, a powerful Japanese businessman. Roxanne Coss, opera's most revered soprano, has mesmerized the international guests with her singing. It is a perfect evening -- until a band of gun-wielding terrorists breaks in through the air-conditioning vents and takes the entire party hostage. But what begins as a panicked, life-threatening scenario slowly evolves into something quite different, as terrorists and hostages forge unexpected bonds and people from different countries and continents become compatriots.Friendship, compassion, and the chance for great love lead the characters to forget the real danger that has been set in motion and cannot be stopped.

Such a good book and I remember being blow away with how intimately the characters were written.

So once again I'm left with the classic Irish man's dilemma, do I eat the potato or do I let it ferment so I can drink it later?

I'm going to start reading Steinbeck again.
I read The Grapes of Wrath, Tortilla Flat, Cannery Row, The Pearl and of course Of Mice and Men when I was a teenager and remember not being able to put them down they had such an impact on me. Time to read them again methinks.
I just read One Day by David Nicholls; frankly was disappointed, only just made it to the end and even then only because I get annoyed about the number of books I abandon half way through.

I've not read enough of it to form a real opinion on it, but there's a lot of sex and death, which is what I'm reading it for, really. >.>

I'm currently reading someone-or-the-other's translation of the Ramayana. As well as everything else I'm reading. I should probably try reading all the books I'm in the middle of first before opening a new one...

I can't believe some of you guys actually 'read' textbooks...I tend to just scan through them, and look at sections I need - Don't really count that as proper reading material.

I'm currently reading Light Years by ...can't remember the guys name Brain something....Reading it slowly but it's good.

That looks pretty stupendous. I might just order that. But I have an obsession with clocks and watches. At school I used to wear multiple watches. No longer, but asking the time is still my favourite chat–up line. Albert Einstein once said: “The release of atom power has changed everything except our way of thinking... the solution to this problem lies in the heart of mankind. If only I had known, I should have become a watchmaker.” Afro

    Y'all are lying though.

I see your mills and boons buried in that hawking book.

I really enjoyed the brothers k.
Dostoevsky tells a great story while being the original psycho-analyst.
