  • Hello from new Murtad
     OP - December 04, 2010, 12:25 PM

    Hi...
I am another murtad basically from India but lived in the Gulf for last 17-18 yrs. I am male and 18.
I come from a very orthodox and devout family and my parents are associated with the Jamaat-e-Islami. I was raised in a very religious environment and had very good knowledge of Islam by 16.
I was like the so claimed 'rational' Muslims, big fan of Zakir Naik, and followed the salafi brand of Islam...
But there were a few emotional reasons that sowed the first seeds of doubt. I was very depressed to note that the rate of answering prayers of Allah was no different from that of other 'false gods'.
I grew depressed and lost interest in praying. I also noticed how religion goes hand in hand with ignorance, intolerance and misogyny. Sensing there was something very wrong about it, I started critically analyzing Islam.

Upon looking at it with an objective mind, I found that it could not possibly be from God; the all knowledgable omnipotent creator of this astonishing universe. I realized all religions were simply man-made. But this was not easy to accept.

What I've felt and found is that people tend to believe religion and a personal God basically because it provides them comfort, assures them that all their suffering wont be in vain, they will live forever in the afterlife where they will be united with their deceased ones once again, they really believe that there is an invisible force ( God ) which helps them personally through their chores, helps them get good grades in tests, cares for them during their surguries, cures their chronic cosntipation etc etc. This is the reason even quite reasonable people hold onto religion ( albeit with a cognitive dissonance ) , despite the clear absurdities, irrational mumbo jumbo that gives away all religions as creation of fallible human.

Religion and faith in a personal God also keeps the masses ignorant and backward because it is more comfortable to claim 'GAWD DOES IT' than to engage your higher cereberal faculties and try to uncover how stuff actually works.

I am yet a closet apostate but I do intend to make it public because it is killing me inside, I still have to keep up with senselessly banging my head on ground 5 times a day.

There are many many reasons that imo are clear proof of Islam being false. Some of them imho are

    1. Islam vehemently claims that it is so crystal clear truth that the people who dont accept it are the worst of creations and deserve to be roasted senslessly forever and ever and ever in hell fire.
Quran even goes on to claim that "We will show them signs in heavens and in themselves, till it is clear to them that it is the truth" . If this was true, and if all people in the world were given equal evidence of Islam being true, if chosing Islam was as simple as either accepting or rejecting it, statistically around 50% of people born to non Muslim parents should have converted to Islam. But statistics tell you otherwise. Way over 95% of people only believe in religion of their parents, the only conclusion you could make was that just by chance being born to Muslim parents will assure you success in the afterlife. In other words, the accident of birth dictates your fate in afterlife ( at least in 95%++ cases) . People are as much convinced about their religion being true as much as you are, so it is very cruel to punish someone for eternity for being honestly convinced about an idea that you consider wrong.

    2. The Quran and hadith suggest a highly anthropomorphic nature of Allah, which is unacceptable.

    3. Then there are the disturbingly bullshit verses/surahs of Quran which cannot be rationally explained [ eg. 2:71-72(<-implies allah ressurects people by touching their dead body with a piece of cow!) , 4:34 , 4:03(<- clearly broken verse ) , 12:53 (<-umm whos' words are these? )  Ch. 111(<- feelings of the most merciful omnipotent God or pissed Mo? ) etc ]

I am an Agnostic now, perhaps a deist. I think there might be some 'source'/first cause of the universe that humans wont ever suceed in finding out, I worship her by gazing up in the night sky, gandering her beautiful stars billions and billions of miles away and letting my mind get lost in the Cosmos.

Welcome to the forum, vagabond.  victory

I'm sorry you are still surrounded by religious fundies and hence have to pretend-pray and fake-fast etc.  You might have to suck it up until you are independent and move far away from your family (for work or study).

    Hi...

That is a good way to  go in life.  welcome to cemb  vagabond.   After going in circles on religions/ life/science /scriptures/rubbish, I realized that It is  better to be a  Agnostic,  a deist., in fact it is far better to live life as Vagabond and be VAGUE when it comes to religions and god/s  ..,

So I live my life as GOLDEN RULEIST So my religion is Golden ruleism  The best thing about my religion is it has only ONE LINE AS SCRIPTURE.  and I welcome all in to my religion..lol..

I was like the so claimed 'rational' Muslims, big fan of Zakir Naik, and followed the salafi brand of Islam...

Those Muslims aren't very 'rational' when their apologists think for them, eh?

I was very depressed to note that the rate of answering prayers of Allah was no different from that of other 'false gods'.

    True.

Reminds me of a comedy bit:

"So I've been praying to Joe for about a year now. And I noticed something. I noticed that all the prayers I used to offer to God, and all the prayers I now offer to Joe Pesci, are being answered at about the same 50% rate. Half the time I get what I want, half the time I don't. Same as God, 50-50. Same as the four-leaf clover and the horseshoe, the wishing well and the rabbit's foot, same as the Mojo Man, same as the Voodoo Lady who tells you your fortune by squeezing the goat's testicles, it's all the same: 50-50. So just pick your superstition, sit back, make a wish, and enjoy yourself."  -George Carlin

    2. The Quran and hadith suggest a highly anthropomorphic nature of Allah, which is unacceptable.

The shin of Allah, the foot of Allah, the face of Allah, the throne of Allah, etc.

Most of it goes unnoticed, but I'm sure a lot of Muslims have come across "the right hand" and "the other hand" of Allah and thought it was metaphorical.
