I was like the so claimed 'rational' Muslims, big fan of Zakir Naik, and followed the salafi brand of Islam...
Those Muslims aren't very 'rational' when their apologists think for them, eh?
I was very depressed to note that the rate of answering prayers of Allah was no different from that of other 'false gods'.
True.
Reminds me of a comedy bit:
"So I've been praying to Joe for about a year now. And I noticed something. I noticed that all the prayers I used to offer to God, and all the prayers I now offer to Joe Pesci, are being answered at about the same 50% rate. Half the time I get what I want, half the time I don't. Same as God, 50-50. Same as the four-leaf clover and the horseshoe, the wishing well and the rabbit's foot, same as the Mojo Man, same as the Voodoo Lady who tells you your fortune by squeezing the goat's testicles, it's all the same: 50-50. So just pick your superstition, sit back, make a wish, and enjoy yourself." -George Carlin
What I've felt and found is that people tend to believe religion and a personal God basically because it provides them comfort, assures them that all their suffering wont be in vain, they will live forever in the afterlife where they will be united with their deceased ones once again, they really believe that there is an invisible force ( God ) which helps them personally through their chores, helps them get good grades in tests, cares for them during their surguries, cures their chronic cosntipation etc etc. This is the reason even quite reasonable people hold onto religion ( albeit with a cognitive dissonance ) , despite the clear absurdities, irrational mumbo jumbo that gives away all religions as creation of fallible human.

2. The Quran and hadith suggest a highly anthropomorphic nature of Allah, which is unacceptable.
The shin of Allah, the foot of Allah, the face of Allah, the throne of Allah, etc.
Most of it goes unnoticed, but I'm sure a lot of Muslims have come across "the right hand" and "the other hand" of Allah and thought it was metaphorical.
