    in the year 859 Fatimah al fihri decide to build in fes city in morroco  *jamiaat (university) al karawiyin*   . this university still work now . according to Guinness World Records‏ its the oldest university that still in action till now .

    some of the western scientists study in it .
     the pope *silvister 2* Graduated from it . some thinkers said that he bring the arab numerals (1.2.5.8...)  to europe when he back to rome . 
     Ibn Khaldun The founder of sociology . he study in this university
    also Muhammad al-Idrisi one of the greatest Geographers in the history.  whose maps aided European exploration in the Renaissance

    so you can said that this university help very much to save europe  from the dark ages . & thanks to a muslim women . who was wearing hijab or mabye a burka

    no-one in Europe denies that the Arab translations of ancient Greek and Roman scientific knowledge helped Europe to emerge out of the "dark" ages. I doubt that this university is directly the source of the information passed to the Europeans.  Jerusalem and Andalusia were the sources of this transfer of ancient and newer knowledge, after they had been conquered....

    But one main difference is that while the Europeans took those ideas, improved them and propelled forward with an astonishing speed, especially since the Renaissance, the Islamic world stayed basically in the same place since the X-XI century....

    Now tell us dear muslim friend , where have 99% of the daily items you use been invented? From the Teflon in your coocking ware , till your high-tech stuff and even ideas as Human Rights and Equality have come from secular democracies in the west and east (Europe,USA,Japan).

    I once heard from an Ismaili schizmatic that they founded the oldest university, al-Azhar. I didn't question it then, being pleased that, once again, the great deen was at the foundation of anything vaguely resembling civilisation.

    But now I think about it: what actually constitutes a university. Obviously in days gone by it didn't mean a designated tertiary institution of higher learning. So why do Musulmen claim it as their own? Surely certain Africans, Hindustanis, Kitais and others could equally claim the world's oldest university for their cultures.

    For one, he just said the oldest university that is still in operation today -- there have been 'university' like institutions since 1500BC.

    Secondly, this record is not recognized on the Guinness Book or World Records website. I only found it referenced as the oldest university as said by Guinness on some other random website.

    Lastly, I don't see how this is a point for religion or Islam at all. Good job? I certainly see a lot of prestigious universities in the muslim world today... whistling2

    muslims was very rich & civilized in that time . in the whole 1000 years
    all the islamic world.muslims was get a good health care & good food & water
     in mosques & streets. spain,morroco,tunisie,egypt,syria,iraq,persia,turkie...
    baghdad was full of rich houses . in cordoba only  was 50 hospital.
    this is just a few exemples
     
     .but what happen is the same thing that happen to any civilization.

    Not to mention having the geographical luck of being in the center of the land trade routes between Europe, India and Asia.  As soon as Europeans started developing alterate trade routes income started drying up

    That and running out of infidels to tax and loot.

    hahaha our Berber friend seems brainwashed.... The fact that Moroccans build major groups of emigrants (1-st or 2-nd by size) in all francophone states of Europe , plus Spain and Italy speaks very much to itself. 

    The islamic propaganda he seems to have eaten is astonishing... Claiming that the Moors BROUGHT civilisation in Spain is ridiculous... No one denies that the arabic texts had a huge impact in Europe after the reconquista of spain but Europe was not in the Stone Age that time... Most of the Arab texts were actually European texts (translations of Greeko-Roman Philosophy and Sciences)....

    "spend six months out of the year cleaning your OWN back yard, and
    the next six months keeping it that way"

    In other words, don't judge other people until your own filth, is cleaned up
    first.  And if you spent half your time cleaning it, and the other half keeping
    it that way, there is no time to judge.
