Interesting.  Although you suffer from the same problem as I do.  It sounds like your reading a script, rather than talking to the audience.

I find it helps to actually use the same facial expressions as you do when talking down the mic, as you would use when talking to a friend but exaggerate them 5 fold.

It changes the intonation in your voice, and makes your voice sound more colourful.

As someone who used to do speaking and stuff like that for church, I learned a lot about adding voice inflection when using a phone or recording. Traditionally, most recording technology tended to "deaden" the voice (long boring technical explanation deleted). Add in the fact that the audience can't read your facial expressions nor body language, and the voice has a lot to make up for. I don't know about the UK, but in the US, if you listen closely there is echo and other effects added to help make up the difference.

Try splitting the difference between absurd exaggeration and your normal speech and you'll probably be on the right track.

I've used what they taught me over the years. I can't really say I got nothing out of going to church.

Islamophobe is such a piss-weak and childish word, on a par with 'poopy pants' and 'I'm tellin my mom of you!'. Whenever some whiny bitch says it, I feel like pulling their pigtails and stealing their dinner money.

Too fucking busy, and vice versa.
