I haven't come across this discussion, thanks.  Will check it out later.

Edge held a very similar discussion months before this, titled The New Science of Morality:

    http://www.edge.org/3rd_culture/morality10/morality10_index.html

And Sam Harris, who's in both discussions, released The Moral Landscape a couple of months back.  I'm waiting on the paperback to come out early next year.

is only one defense: the creative act.

I think I posted Part I  - not sure why Youtube zeros in on that particular still.

I read the Moral Landscape not long ago and, for the most part, I do agree with it.  I thought Singer made a good point in his mentioning the value judgment that needs to be made when we pit longevity of the few versus moderate lifespan of the many.  It seems to me that we can't escape the domain of philosophy when such comparisons are made.

The discussion of morality is one of those subjects I find myself going back and forth on. I still have a problem in seeing how science can derive reasons why we ought to behave in a certain way/s in respect to other people and concsious creatures.

"The ideal tyranny is that which is ignorantly self-administered by its victims. The most perfect slaves are, therefore, those which blissfully and unawaredly enslave themselves."
