Very good, especially on dealing with crises. Thanks for posting.

Saw this a few days ago (I actually subscribed to Qualia Soup from seeing it on this forum!) and it is a fantastic video. It really has some great arguments, particularly liked the bit on pain and children without nerve endings causing damage to themselves as well as the bit on living to see knowledge overcome ignorance. Hopefully we can live to see that day (maybe I am being too optimistic, but sue me).

What I liked even better was The Instruction Manual for Life:

Such a profoundly moving video. Goes to remind us of ourselves.

Whenever this question is posed to me by a religious person I cannot help but to respond
"With my lack of religion I have many reasons to live. What has religion done to you to make your life so bad that all you have to look forward to is dying?"

I don't come here any more due to unfair moderation.

Sadly this is true.  When I was religious I kind of wished that death would hurry up so that I could "move on" to the next stage of human existence.  Since my deconversation, I wish I could be immortal, not because I fear death, but because I feel closer to my fellow human beings and I am truly sad that I won't be able to see the whole story of the human race, to enjoy meeting people with their unique stories, the ups and downs, and really get to know people.

So once again I'm left with the classic Irish man's dilemma, do I eat the potato or do I let it ferment so I can drink it later?

Overall it looks like a very valuable video, especially for young people in crisis. However the very beginning was mystifying to me when the connection between disbelief and suicide was made. For whatever reason I always felt there's more not less reason to live if there's no God...

I just made this comment on that video:

To be fair many Christians, Muslims, Jews, Hindus etc... do indeed do their best to alleviate the suffering of others whether it be on a personal level or as part of a charity etc - just as much as atheists, agnostics, non-religious etc. It may simply help them psychologically to cope with such suffering, to think that those who suffer will be in a better place. Having such a belief doesn't necessarily preclude doing your level best to change a situation.

Nope .. I WILL NOT BE FAIR FOR THESE RASCALS ..

all those guys have ulterior motive of going to their  heaven by giving a bit to so-called poor folks or helping others, Mostly to their own groups.  Off course there are exceptions. But  That does very little for building long lasting institutions to server humanity or for other living things of this planet..

Do not let silence become your legacy.. Question everything

While I agree with your point, what I like about her video is she is giving a positive spin on living life as an atheist. That yes while religious people may be doing things to reduce pain and suffering on earth their purpose is to  gain some benefits or score points with god while we on the other hand do these things to make the world we live in here and now a better place.

She puts a positive spin on our worldview which speaking for myself some of us need some times.

First of all, to the person calling himself "Yeezevee" who's reply was coherent and normal: "What have you done with the real - and totally insane & incoherent Yeezevee?Huh?"

Secondly to both (Yeez & Confused) - I take the point about Atheists positive attitude - but I still think it is rather unfair and harsh on the very many Christians, Muslims etc... to dismiss their actions as being for selfish reasons of reward etc... when very many do their best to help others without any intention of reward.

Bear in min the vast majority of believers of all faiths worldwide are not really very 'religious' yet still have a vague belief in some sort of "better place" - without it meaning their acts are any less selfless.

I'm on a 'let's be fair' crusade these days.  grin12

Seriously though, I don't like to get too complacent in my views and I'm always checking myself - probably too much, but at the end of the day if I hadn't been like that I wouldn't have questioned Islam. So I'm always wary of 'group-think'.
