Bangladesh has issues but its progress and trajectory in contrast with Pakistan is startling.

There is a fundamental difference between Pakistan and Bangladesh and that is one Language and it is uni-cultural society., unlike Pakistan where each province has its own language culture and its own Islam.

Yeeezeevee, India has even more languages and ethnicities and religions than Pakistan. It still has a secular constitution, democracy, it isn't a 'Hindu Republic' like Pakistan is an 'Islamic Republic'

Maybe Bangladesh being uni-lingual is a comparative advantage but thats what Pakistan has to deal with and it should do so.

IsLame, Saudis can get to Bangladesh if they want to. They are getting to Indonesia, Malaysia, all those far flung Islamic nations too. Bangladesh has collectively decided on the direction they want to take.

Look, by no means is Bangladesh perfect, there is still extremism there, poverty and so on. In other words, the problems all developing nations have. But Bangaldeshis have kept the army out of the parliament. They've kept Islam out of the state. They have beaten back the Jamatis, Maududists. This is because the will of the people, the civil society of Bangladesh, and the politics have made it so. They lobbied for it, they stuck to their constitution, they see the benefits of secularism. And all of this in the face of natural disasters, poverty, and all the ailments that could have made it turn to easy answers and the comforts of a religious identity and Islamic politics.

I'm sorry to have to repeat this prediction, and so soon in the New Year: If the region becomes any more unstable the USA will, in one way or another, feel that they are forced to invade at least The N W Frontier. They won't play around with drones anymore or with just the special forces they have already inserted. They are desperate to destroy Al Qaeda and the system that supports them.
The USA needs another war to keep it's war-mongering economy healthy too. It would be much easier to roll over into Pakistan than to get started on Iran just yet.
I reckon the Yanks are doing a deal with China too: North Korea in exchange for butting out of Taiwan. Each will squeeze their respective clients until the pips squeak. It would suit the new capitalist China very well to have an emerging new market on the door step instead of a deranged cripple with a begging bowl. And they can always try the same kind of experiment with Taiwan as they are conducting with Hong Kong and Macau if they cut a deal that's acceptable.

lol the democrats have bombed more countries (Pakistan, Yemen and Somalia) than the republicans did (Afghanistan and Iraq) both are as bad as each other, difference being the republicans are more blunt in their statements/views and I appreciate it that. FFS, just look at the drone strikes! Over 90% happen to be civilians and then people wonder why and how the taliban recruit footsoldiers
