    IIRC the orthodox position, in Islam a soul only enters the body of the foetus after a couple of weeks/months following conception. Thus up to to that point abortion is halal - but not after.

    Open to correction.

    @Hupla

    I once dated a girl with a similar name as yours. I did not suceeed in impregnating her but I did manage to take her tender breasts in my mouth. Do you want to see the pictures? I'm not convinced you've read my argument. It is very dangerous to go on the gist of a thread's title with mine. It's never what it seems. If you have, let me know what you think of my timeless, ageless, peerless rejoinder to the mainstream clerical position.

    @Yez

    Why in your view is abortion haram? Can you support that with Islamic theology?

    Quote
    Qur'an clearly disapproves of killing other humans: “Take not life which Allah has made sacred” (6:151; see also 4:29  “If a man kills a believer intentionally, his recompense is Hell, to abide therein (for ever)” (4:93). Allah (SWT) went even further, making unlawful killing of a single individual human being equal to mass murder of the whole of mankind: "Because of that, We ordained for the children of Israel that if anyone killed a person not in retaliation for murder or for spreading mischief on earth, it would be as if he killed all mankind. And who saved a life, it would be as if he saved all mankind." (Al-Maidah, 5:32)

    As to whether abortion is a form of killing a human, the Qur'an does not make any explicit statements. Only Surah 17:31 warns believers in general: “Kill not your children for fear of want. We shall provide sustenance for them as well as for you. Verily the killing of them is a great sin.”

    We are supposed to be extremely grateful to Allah for providing us with life, so taking it away is seen as being ungrateful

    ^^^ It's permissible under some circumstances i.e. going through with pregnancy poses a significant health risk to the mother.

    ^^^It's an interesting question, I'm just stating Islam's view on the issue but I would guess that they justify it by saying the baby goes to heaven in the end.

    After reading the link - ' They argue that the mother can have other children, whereas the child cannot make up for losing the mother.'

    So can the baby start a family when it comes of age. Nor can the mother make up for the loss of that baby. By common consensus it is normally deemed a greater abomination to kill a baby than it is to kill an adult, no?

    Children are small, innocent and defenseless human beings so I can understand the majority feeling that way but does that imply we should forfeit the life of the mother?

    Hey, I'm merely stating counter-arguments. I would say in the case of rape, I'd agree with your argument.

    I love counter-arguments. I once impregnated one. I don't know if she aborted it.

    It's 4 months.

    Aborting it afterwards is banned because they believe Allah has given it the "rooh" (spirit).

    There is an exception to this when the mother's life is in danger, etc.

    Narrated Abdullah: Allah's Apostle, the true and truly inspired said, "(as regards your creation), every one of you is collected in the womb of his mother for the first forty days, and then he becomes a clot for another forty days, and then a piece of flesh for another forty days. Then Allah sends an angel to write four words: He writes his deeds, time of his death, means of his livelihood, and whether he will be wretched or blessed (in religion). Then the soul is breathed into his body..."
