  • An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.

I am wondering whether or not, the principle of "An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth" is a good thing or a bad thing.

    Quote
The notion that for every wrong done there should be a compensating measure of justice.

Interpret it as you will, as obviously one could interpret the quote how they wanted to, but do you agree with the quote or not?

I am curious just because I'm not sure of how I feel about it, I got it on the political compass.  Huh?

Well, as Ghandi said, 'an eye for an eye and the world goes blind.'

Though I don't object too much to it, it's just a rule of thumb that if someone violates the rights of another then they should be requited for it. It's better that than excessive punishment for a crime, and the matter of clemency shouldn't be neglected.

You've got to love Ghandi.... If he was living some thousands years ago, he could have been considered a prophet.   Afro

We would have seen Muslims fighting with Ghandians who are fighting Christians!  whistling2

I don't object to the Mosaic law. Capital punishment is mighty swell. It rids the human stock of the mentally defective and makes life cheaper and safer for all God's chillun. I recommend it. But here I must file a caveat. If it's a life for a life, to be logically consistent let us extend the principle to include a rape for a rape and a pedophilia for a pedophilia and an arson for an arson ad infinitum.

Short of the infliction of the exact same retribution, the scourge of crime will never be put down. I believe it is the only way, the surest and Godly way to rid the world of darkness. For my part I offer to discharge the legal penalty of anally raping the sexually incontinent till they drop from sheer exhaustion and their spirit takes flight. It is not a prospect I relish. But I will execute my patriotic duty for the sake of king and country. Now then, who will mount the children of the kiddy-fiddler?
