Difference is that these kids are in a private school (it looks like the uniform of Beaconhouse schools, also, in private schools generally girls don't have to wear hijab whereas in public schools they usually do). The video Islame posted on the previous page is from public schools. Pakistan's public schools are notoriously behind the times, it's a known fact, every Pakistani knows this.

Yep, those are pretty funny/sad too. It's also pretty widely known that the US public education is sorely lacking, compared to other "developed" countries (at least pre-university level, that is).

The charity helps with teaching children how to read as well as providing a safe environment for them to learn in (as well as books). More info here.

Actually I just noticed they don't cover Pakistan even though they do Bangladesh and India. Hmm, wonder what the issues are helping kids in Pakistan.

Does Bangladesh still have feudal lords in villages? If not, you are good. India ended that in 1960's. And they were easily able to do that because most of the feudal lords were muslims. In Pakistan unfortunately most of the rural areas are run by the powerful, they abuse the rest of the people, and don't let them join school. Because if anyone gets educated, they would start demanding their rights. This thing is so widespread that international organizations simply can't do anything until this gets resolved, which isn't happening in next 100 years.

I did NOT bash Pakistani kids. Its teacher's fault. I am sure most of the schools in urban areas are still good. The school in the video looks like in a village, where teachers are either uneducated themselves or just not doing their jobs.

Makes sense why my BF is like he is then, he was educated in a Beaconhouse school.

Well, all my older siblings studied in public schools, and they all finished their masters. I on the other hand only end my education after Bachelors. Anyways, point is, there are many good public schools in pk. Other then my sibling religious nuttiness, they all did very well.

They may have been the exception - not saying all teachers or all public schools are the same, I'm sure there are variations depending on where you're talking about. And of course there are students who are themselves extremely exceptional. But from what I know and have seen and heard, most public schools are falling apart and the teachers are very sub-par. That's in the parts where there are schools to begin with. My mom used to work for an organization that audited public schools in Karachi, and the stories she told were horrid. Kids who were hungry for knowledge and a system that largely failed them, bad hygiene in the buildings, lots of emphasis on religious studies, very little on science; frequent corporal punishment by the teachers, corrupt administration, girls pulled out of school by their families at puberty etc. I know there are some people who are working to change these things, but most Pakistanis, I think, would agree there are huge class differences entrenched within the public/private education system there.

It seems to me part of the problem may also be that as an ideological state, Pakistan often injects its ideology into the school curriculums.

I know what you mean, billy.

My dad would get these Urdu textbooks from Pakistan. The majority of the stories were either about Islam, the prophets, the sahahaba, or war stories about Pakistanis who were made "shaheed" in battle with the kuffar Indians.

An islamic ideology didn't constitute a culture for Pakistanis, and deprived them of one instead.

Hu!.  How come they are bastards when people of Pakistan changed their religion? and even if they are bastards,  why destroy them?? You know Eliphaz, biologically speaking, I realized that bastards are more smart and probability of in-breeding is less in bastard children   and tehy have less genetic problem.

    the link at http://www.dawn.com/2011/03/29/indian-pms-invitation.html says

"Indian PM’s invitation"., This Indian PM is a very smart guy,  any ways that link says

    Quote
THE confrontation between India and Pakistan has been there since Partition. …Despite … wars, the people of the two countries have not distanced themselves [from each other]. Whenever there is a sign that the two countries are coming closer the people feel happy. But sooner or later … hopes are dashed.

Now Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has invited Pakistani President Zardari and Prime Minister Gilani to India to watch the ‘high-voltage’ India-Pakistan cricket World Cup semifinal in Mohali. This has refreshed hopes for improvement in ties. People expect the Mohali match to help bring the two countries closer. …If the two countries had not such a confrontational attitude towards one another, the living standard of their people could have been better.

Ms Benazir Bhutto, during her first tenure, had tried to bring down temperatures by meeting her Indian counterpart Rajiv Gandhi, but some anti-democratic forces did not allowed Ms Bhutto to fulfil this effort. Later, during the Nawaz Sharif tenure, Indian Prime Minster Vajpayee came to Pakistan through the Wagah border…. This too had revived hopes for peace and cordial relations between the neighbouring countries. People were happy that the politics of hate … was going to end.
But this hope was drowned in the mini war of Kargil … After this incident, well-wishers of both countries again hoped for
    better.

Gen Musharraf was invited to India … the Khokhrapar-Munabao railway link was opened and the Kashmir bus service was launched. …The Mumbai incident once again sparked fire…. Pakistan should respond positively to the Indian prime minister’s office. Whether it is the Shimla Accord or the dream of a common currency, the PPP leaders can do it. …We hope the Mohali match will strengthen ties…. — (March 27)

translated by Sohail Sangi from Pkaistan's news paper..

And the team I supported never won ...  So whom should I support so Eliphaz??

New Zealand last again 7th time in semi finals...

I was surprised to see only one or two Jinnah stories.

And there's a quote by him on the side cover spelling out how Pakistan is fucked.
