  • Little Mosque on the Prarie
     OP - January 25, 2011, 02:13 PM

Its a show about Canadian muslims, but it is way to liberal to represent majority of muslims. Anyways, its in season 5 now. All the seasons are available on youtube. By the way I too got offended during first season because it was way too liberal, but it did help me having more liberal views.

This is season 5, episode 2, which I am watching right now. Feel free to search for rest of the episodes on youtube.

I loved watching this show on CBC when I used to live in Canada Smiley

The reason why I don't watch the show is not because its depiction of Muslims is too liberal. That's fine. But because the whole premise is predicated on a fantasy with no bearing on reality. No Muslim I've met is remotely as ecumenical as this crowd. The roles could be played by non-muslims and it would not affect the plot at all. Propaganda. That's all.

Yes, most of them are non-muslims. The only ones muslims are Amaar and Babar. The point of this show was to show a progressive muslim imam. By the way, the guy who played Amaar also played a gay guy in one other South Asian/Asian mix show.

Which is dangerous considering that there might be  quite a few people for whom the idiot box happens to be a primary source of information and education. No wonder some outlandish myths flourish!

Not really! They are not promoting any ridiculous myths. They are trying to get rid of all the bad myths. Also they are making progressive muslims behave much better. Watch the very first episode of first season.

Guess what? I made a comment on its facebook page with my little instigator mind:

"I just finished watching the episodes 2 and 3 of the season 5. Although I am an Ex-muslim now, but I still love this show. Amazing job!!"

Two people liked my comment including Sugith Varughese who look sikh or something by name, but he do a supporting role as a hardcore muslim in the mosque, he also appears in many other shows.

He's not a Sikh but most probably a Syrian Catholic from Kerala!

Yes! I am right found the link!

I am sure Zarqa Nawaz, the original writer of the show must be closet murtid as well. Pretty much all the cast include non-muslims, and I am sure Amaar is gay, because he played gay in another show.

I've seen a couple straight men play gay guys in shows...though the gay community calls them closeted actors...I get pissed at that, if they are in the closet leave them be. Maybe they just dont want to be associated with you not with being gay.

This show was nice then it kinda lost its appeal around midseason 3.

I wish parents everywhere could remove their veil of religion and see their kids for whom they actually are.

Season 5 episode one was ok, in which amaar and rayyan officially proposed, but no kiss. But episode 2 and 3 made it back.

I am sure norabora about straight guys playing gay, but for a muslim guy specially from pakistani background, this is kinda social suicide.
